I have come to the conclusion that The Band's album The Band is the greatest album ever. It is a triumph of not only virtuosity, but paradoxically, of teamwork and simplicity. Similarly, it signaled progression yet its influences were firmly the past. It was out of place but its effects were immmediate and it remains potent today. The songwriting and storytelling are almost unparralelled and sonically, for an album based on country, it's rocking and ridiculously funky. Basically its only competition is Exile On Main Street and sometimes it's not even close. Having owned this album for about five years I can only recommend buying it immediately and enoying it without delay or letting it grow on you. Depending on your personal circumstances this may take 3 minutes or until you're 60.
Thank you.

I was just about to mention Exile.
Are you going by the reissue with all the extra tracks or just the original 12 track lp? Either way, I disagree. But it is a brilliant album. Just not the brilliantest ever. I think in time you'll realize that Exile is actually better. Depending on your personal circumstances this may take 3 minutes or until you're 60.

the time that's it's not even close is usually when I'm listening to the album...but in all honesty the roles could be reversed...not just within that statement but in the whole paragraph.
