What a prick.

yep. i'd sooner deport him than an immigrant. At this point, it would be a huge loss for our society if we didnt have immigrants, they are willing to take on a lot of important jobs like doctors and surgeons.

What a prick.Freedom of speech, rememba. They can say what they like.

Or should he be controlled while others are allowed to mock religious groups in print?

Hmmmmmmmmm?

Tricky, innit?

Morally, perhaps. But in your law, there's a very clear line between insulting a race and insulting a religion. The latter's not yet illegal.

This is completely different, there is a world of difference between mocking people for what they do (ie believeing in fairy tales) and mocking people for what they are.

So its not so tricky

yeah, what they are shouldn't be an issue anyway because we should all consider each other equal. as for what they believe in well ideally you shouldnt make fun of that either but i supose its better then what they are.

What about Jews , they blur the line.

Apparently you can knock their religion, but not their lineage. Though, the law may be ambiguous enough to disallow the mocking of either.

So mocking somebody who is Moslem is OK?

In so far as its ok to mock anyone for anything - beng a Muslim seems pretty much fair game. Increasingly the boundries betwen race and religion become blurred so I wouldnt advocate going around being abusive toany particular religion.

But religion is a conscious choice and people are accountable for their decisions.

But religion is a conscious choice. So they can be mocked for their choice.

Is somebody born into a Moslem or Jewish or even a Catholic family really free to choose their religion?

If the line's blurred, then how come everyone's so sure that the Moslems are wrong to be upset?

I think this is coming accross wrong - Im not advocating just walking around insulting every religious person you meet - thats just mean. My point is that unlike race, religion is a choice and people must take responcibility for that choice.

Sure you might have been brainwashed into believing a particular religion, but an inquisitive mind should see through that brainwashing. If a person lives in a culture where failing to follow a particular religious view is not tollerated then it may well be advisable for that person to go along with the crowd and pretend to follow it too. That doesnt nessecarily deserve mocking, that is rational.

I think Arabs might have grounds to be upset if the cartoons mocked there ethnicity but they dont .

I'm a great example of this.
