does anyone else have a hard time swallowing pills....

I'm taking alot of supplements right now and I really don't like swallowing pills very much. they always feel like they get stuck half way down my throat and just sit there for 30 minutes until they eventually disolve. I usually eat with my pills because then I don't get that sensation, however some of the stuff I'm taking can't be taken with food. :(

I developed a fear of swallowing hard objects (insert sexual joke here)... no really, when I was a kid my mom took me to this convention and I was eating a hard candy and swallowed it and it got stuck in my throat... I could breathe and stuff but I'll never forget the feeling of that huge piece of candy stuck in the back of my throat... it took forever to desolve... I hate pills!

I fear jolly ranchers, peppermints... JAW BREAKERS!! AHHHH :eek:

i used to have a hard time when i was a kid and my mom would put it with applesauce or something like that.....but now i love pills :D

one time i accidentally swallowed a jolly rancher. didn't even feel it go down...

I get that sensation when I eat hardboiled eggs. I guess I don't chew them enough. They always get stuck in my throat. Water usually helps, though. I don't have a solution for the pill thing.

Which basically renders my post utterly pointless.

Yeah it takes me forever to swallow a pill, I'll take about 3 drinks before I do it and 3 after. I'm afraid of choking too, because when I was 9 I was spinning in my G-ma's beautie shop chair and I was sucking on a piece of hard candy...you can guess what happened. My grandma had to to the heimlich maneuver on me. :(

yep.

when i was in hospital at age 10 i had to take antibiotics in pill form for the first time. i threw a fit!!! eventually they gave me some childrens liquid antibiotics.

then i was ok, didn't have to swallow any pills for a while except these headache tablets which had a nice smooth sugar coating, which was actually nice to swallow.

then - tonsilitis. MASSIVE fucking terrible tasting pills. i complained and complained and was given the childrens liquid again (which tasted horrible - but you try swallowing large pills when your throat is too swollen to even eat food)

i realised i'd have to deal with this one day. i realised i could swallow food easily enough but not pills due to the taste and how they stick to your tongue. i started putting the pills in bits of banana and swallowing that :)

now i have it sorted almost. people look at me funny - but i pour some water into my mouth, tilt my head back, drop the pill into the water and swallow. this way the pill never touches my tongue and i'm ok.

i don't take many pills. my medicine cabinet has aspirin, vitamins, and allergy medicine.



does anyone else find it funny that medicine for your throat is usually gigantic?

When I attempt it each time, it doesn't go down. I just end up crushing it, then swallowing it with water.

(!) Oh, PLEASE be careful with that then if you are taking a prescription medication! An awful lot of medicine pills/tablets are engineered to break down in your stomach as a certain rate, ensuring a steady release of dosage over time. If you crush them, you are effectively destroying that capability. That could make the medicine less effective, and in the worst case scenario, could even result in overdose - not neccessarily an overdose that could kill you or that you would outwardly even notice, but that might cause internal organ damage. I seriously urge you, if you are ever issued prescription medication by your doctor to tell him or her that this is the way you take your pills, because they really, really need to know that. (!)

I usually swallow pills without any liquids to help. I got lazy one day (the kitchen is upstairs in my house) and had to take a pill, so I tried to take it without water, and it worked. So I kept doing it.

No seriously, I do drink quite a bit of cold H2o with my vitamins...but I still often get the sensation of them sticking. (n) maybe it's all in my head. I'm hoping once I get use to taking them on a more regular basis that it will get easier.

I can't take a multi-vitamin or certain B vitamins, so I have to break a multi into its component bits and take them individually along with other supplements.

Which means taking about 40 pills at a go.

I don't have a problem with it.

You learn to sort of open up your throat and nearly pour them in.

I used to have trouble, but then once when I was 14, I got very ill and had to take a ton of different pills like every couple of hours and I got really good at taking a bunch at once. I also got really good at putting in eye drops because I had a cold sore in my eye at the same time. which fucking sucks, but it only happened then and once when I was 2. shit. every 12 years...I'm about due for one. NO!
