I was just checking MMM's site and he's listed to play David Letterman on February 8th. So I clicked the date and it says performing with the Beasties!!!

This doesn't sound like a rerun.

Because it's listed as a "tour date" on MMM's site, that would mean he's playing live.

just my opinion, but i hope they perform something that's not hip hop or not perform at all. People who are non fans may be turned off to checking out the film... i say either show a clip from the film or play sometihng instrumental.

Fuck the non-fans. The film isn't for them. The film is for people who love music. People who love music are generally open to all genres.

The Beastie Boys should play whatever they want on Letterman.

zzz i guess, just they've been doing hip hop so much on tv for the past few years. i know it wouldnt happen, but id love to see gratitude on tv or a song off of 'in sound from way out'. of course they can play what they want... and, you're right, the film is for people who love music. and yes people who love music are open to all genres - and id love to see that side for a change... that's all. it'll be good and groovy and fun and all that however they do it im sure

sheesh

Hey...wow, you guys are good! We literally just finalized this last night. Yes, Beastie Boys will be on Letterman on February 8th as a post-Grammy's/ promote AWESOME; I FUCKIN' SHOT THAT! performance. And the guys should be able to sit down and talk to Letterman after they perform. We know it's early to do this, but it's a good match because we're following the Grammy's are on CBS right before, and they can always re-air the show closer to opening, or do something else.

The one thing you guys and gals will like is that for their performance, we're going to have three special camera operators shooting them play, and they WILL NOT be employees of CBS or the Late Show. We're working out the details, but it will be shot in the spirit of the documentary, so keep an eye out for the specifics.

I know you'll have more questions, so bring it. Set those DVRs now!

in the spirit of documentary and "Awesome,,," go with inexperienced camera operators agains. do another post looking for camera people like you did for the concert video.

Check out Letterman's homepage (http://www.cbs.com/latenight/lateshow/show_info/ls_show_info_get_ticket.shtml) for info, you can either get tickets online or in person.

It's actually a pretty complicated formula. I've talked about this in another thread a while ago...but the formula includes how long you've been a member here, how often you post in BG, content and quality of posts and threads started, the ability to bring news and insightfulness into the topics at hand. I think there was also a sexyness factor.

Will there be a point when you post the list of theaters and showtimes on your website or elsewhere? I assume that my best chance of seeing it is at a Landmark theater, so I've been nagging them and they say they are "working out details" and I should watch their website. Are they full of shit? They've got the Neil Young movie next week and I hope they don't think two concert films is too much. :) Truth be told, I'm excited about the Neil Young movie.

Is there any legal way to get copies of Beastie Boys past performances on SNL or Letterman? I have them both on VHS but the tape is getting worn.

Side note: Beastie Boys did SNL a few years back, and did Three MC's and One DJ on Letterman about a year ago, and I don't think they were lip-synching.... they just plain rocked live. Then they did Ch-ch-check it Out on Letterman about a year ago, and I don't think they were lip-synching there either, they just plain friggin rocked.

Am I right that those were true live performances? No fillers or lip-synchs?

Because if so, they just plain friggin rocked and they rule.... :) They even came up to Dave's desk and sat around him all cool like, paying Dave props, without getting in his face, just all cool like... how friggin cool is that? I love these guys!

I'd be more than happy to show my adorable and lovely and kind and smart Mom (who is 70 years old, yes seventy years old) a video of the Beastie Boys in one of the above recordings, without any embarassment... She might not like it at first but she would admire the genuine and sincere energy of the BB's, not to mention some of MCA's solo lyrics that are real poetry in motion.

Man, did they pull off Ch-ch-check it out on Letterman as a real recording? I only watched that like 500000 billion billion times and I think they did. What friggin talent.... (y) (y)

I know they aren't commercial so I'm also not a big fan of their videos, but they seem to pull off live stuff like Paul McCartney (you know, one of the singer from the Beatles) did on the last Super Bowl halftime show.... friggin totally incredible and real... (y)

She might not like it at first but she would admire the genuine and sincere energy of the BB's, not to mention some of MCA's solo lyrics that are real poetry in motion.

this is about the most sickeningly corny post i have ever read, don't get me wrong it's cool that yours ucha b-boy fan, but holy crap!

Not the time they did Shadrach. That was not lip-synced. Please retract your statement.

I don't know about the first Soul Train performance and I don't care for seeing it.

Sorry dude...it was lip sync'd....it wasnt the album version...it was a recording from a live show...which I think was a pretty nice way to do it.

basically anyone who wins a beastie boys related contest that cj hood has never herd of, or who isn’t cj hood, is a newbie and doesn’t deserve the opportunity

that sounds about right cj?

look no one deserves or should claim they deserve the opportunity more than then next person

pearl jam is one of my favorite bands, I have never been on their message board, if there was a contest to go see a sold out pearl jam concert I would go in a minuet

just because I am not on their message board, doesn’t mean i am not a fan

I just don't like people claiming that so and so is a newbie, and that person doesn’t deserve to go

we are all beastie boys fans on this message board

In all fairness to Mr. Hood. I do remember that MTV thing in '04 where they choose board members to be a part of the special and they didnt choose anyone (I hope I have my facts right) that posts frequently.

This place is the No. 1 place to find Beastie Boys news (I'm talking about the message board and not the News section). So the biggest fans will be found here.

I'm not sure if frequenting the board makes you a bigger fan or not, but I am leaning toward...Yes it does.

Not every Beastie Boys fan would have a home computer, let alone the internet. Besides which, not every Beastie Boys fan- regardless of how avid they are- would want to post on the message board. You could be a huge fan of the Beasties and not be into their message board. The two aren't related. This message board makes it easier to keep in contact with fans, obviously, but sometimes I think it's a little unfair for fans who don't have a lot of access to the boards and don't even get to find out about things like the Beasties' appearance on Letterman's show.

I wonder what they perform ? It would be awsome if they performed something they havnt done before. Like "Oh Word" or "Brrr Stick Em" or something. Letterman is on here in Australia at like 1:00am im pretty sure its like a day late to the American one, can someone in Australia confirm this plz ?

It'll be on this Thursday night (technically Friday morning) in Australia. As always, check your local guides for more details.

I requested two tickets also, but they said if you put someone's name on the ticket then you have to bring that person. So if you registered another name then that person has to be the person you take, and they need ID. I don't like that idea, they should allow you and to bring one guest, not a specific person.

I have the Beasties listed in my Tivo Wishlist (meaning that any time they're listed in a program summary as appearing on that show, it'll automatically record it), and I was just browsing to see what's on later this week, and the Letterman was set to record b/c they have the Beasties listed as the musical guest that night. So wherever Tivo gets it's info from has it already.

to answer Documad's question...

We will be letting you know shortly which cities and theaters the film will be shown, but that's eight weeks away, so it's just not finalized yet. Trust me, once it is, I have no doubt one of you will find out about the theaters before I can even post it. For reference, once it is final, there is a AWESOME page on our website (www.thinkfilmcompany.com) which will list all the cities and theaters where the film will be playing.

But one thing I do know for sure...in New York, it will definitely be playing at the Regal Theater in Union Square.

It should be the same episode everywhere in Australia. Channel Nine hasn't been holding back new episodes of Letterman from being shown since Survivor was popular, because he would have the losers on every week and they didn't want to spoil the result for people. Well if they want to meet up, I'd be grateful for their presence lol

Also, a note to EVERYONE (in the States anyways):

The Grammy's are on tomorrow night so Letterman isn't on until 12:05-1:07.

Thank GOD for DVR that I caught that. (and duh to me for missing it on the other thread (http://www.beastieboys.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=62910))

Next year I'll be there, or in London, I'm still confused.
But I wish I was there now, and with a Letterman ticket!

Well that's a bunch of balls...

I got a call last night as well, and with my request, I put my wife's name, but with the baby and all, she doesn't want to go.

And they're not letting me change the name on the other ticket.

I have to call them back at 5pm EST today to see if the ticket lady can plull some strings and let me change the name. If not, I'm just gonna say she can go, and then just go solo.

So you're going?!? Give us the scoop as soon as you can.

It should be the same episode everywhere in Australia. Channel Nine hasn't been holding back new episodes of Letterman from being shown since Survivor was popular, because he would have the losers on every week and they didn't want to spoil the result for people. Check this if you're unsure of the time, it should be between 12 and 1 am everywhere though - http://tvguide.ninemsn.com.au/

Yeah nice, thanks heaps (!)

Did nobody else miss the trivia question? :o (I knew I would, I just don't watch Dave like I used to.. and I mean, I even have his mom's cookbook..) and if you tried, oh well

Getting there before 4 was an iffy proposition for me anyway with the gig I have now at the Met on Wednesdays. So I will have to be there in spirit this time and watch on the tube later. (Though hubby agreed to check the board in case something comes up like last time where they invited us to see them perform outside.. I'll never forget that :D)

Have fun y'all! Break a leg, Beatsie Boys (y)

Sorry I didn't call you back last nite. The lady won't let me switch. I have til 12 today to cancel my 2nd ticket, I will try again to see if they'll allow a switch. I tried to give her your name but she said she's all booked up (umm HELLO I'm cancelling my guests ticket)

Anyways, I'll be in the city by 2. Give me a call if you want to meet up.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

The one thing you guys and gals will like is that for their performance, we're going to have three special camera operators shooting them play, and they WILL NOT be employees of CBS or the Late Show. We're working out the details, but it will be shot in the spirit of the documentary, so keep an eye out for the specifics.

I know you'll have more questions, so bring it. Set those DVRs now!

Oh, uh warning - Spoiler, I guess.

I hear they played the first verse of 3 MCs and then went into So Watcha Want.

I guess there was like 4 people in the audience with a camera, and Dave was taping the audience or something.

That's all I got.

Did they pick audience members at random to shoot the performance or was it someone that the Beasties knew?

although there was no interview, you guys wont be dissapointed. the entire program revolved around the video camera theme... Dave went into extensive detail about the new movie( he called it Awesome I Shot That)...

it was great to see the crowds reaction while Dave was explaining the concept of AIFST, they sounded like they were impressed and this has got to be great for the release...

Dave and Paul had their video cameras throughout the entire hour and were playing around with some footage... Ponce De Leon sat right behind lyneday and I, what a great gesture from J. Doran....

I did see Adrock outside the theater with his cup of coffee and patted him on the shoulder and told him to have a great show... as always, his "thank you" was sincere...

I cant thank lyneday enough, I got in as her guest after some finagling, Im sorry that Bionic couldnt make it but he was on standby...(what number did they get to, by the way?) best birthday present ever!!!

Bionic

You guys are so lucky to have gone, it's like the second best thing (next to being an AIFST camera person) to have shot some footage last night!
