I notices that some lyrics from Beasty Boys and Easy E were the same and found it rather odd.

2:42 seconds into the song "Boyz C Da Hood" by easy E (Eazy-Duz-It, 1988) You hear in the backround of the song the word "beer" repeatedly, then you hear the words:
"Beer drinking, breath stinking, sniffing glue".
You hear the same line 1:45 seconds into the song "Hold It Now, Hit It" by the by the Beastie boys (Licensed To Ill, 1995).

Coincidence??

they're both beer-drinking, glue-sniffers with bad breath?

Is this post a joke? "Boyz in the Hood" came out in late 1987. DJ Yella is cutting up a Beastie Boys record.

This thread is stupid. Everybody knows that Dre used to sample LTI regularly. That shit is all over SOOC and EDI. (y)

Some lyrics from that site:

Eazy E "Eazy Duz It"

'Cause I'm a hip-hop thugster, I used to be a mugster
If you heard Compton, you think I own a drugstore

If you heard COMPTON? The lyric is "If you heard DOPE MAN.." They're WRONG.

Now, back to you.. Have you ever even heard the song you are referring to by Eazy E? I doubt it. You should check it out. The Beastie line is played right from "Hold It Now Hit It" as is all of the other sound bites in the chorus. There was no lyric stealing involved.

Everyone is bickering about the little useless parts of what I was actually trying to ask: What was the significance of the Beastie Boy's line in the Easy E song? Is there a leginamate reason for Easy to be dissing the Beastie Boys? Or was it all just to get attention from publicity?

You are right. lyrics.com is not a very resoursful site. I should have realized that before I put the first post with incorrect information. Although the dates of when they came out really had nothing to do with what I was trying to ask, they really just made a destraction from the original topic of the thread.

For a future reference I wouldn't suggest anyone use lyrics.com for research on music.

Hah.

Anyway, the song sampled (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sampling_%28music%29) the beastie boys. No diss, nor was he trying to "get attention from publicity"

Okay, I think you're just misunderstanding hip hop fundamentals. Hip hop music is almost entirely reliant on sampling. All the songs off of License to Ill are made out of samples (other people's music). Same goes for Paul's Boutique. The majority of Check Your Head, Ill Comm. and Hello Nasty is samples. Also, there are a ton of Beastie Boys lyrics that are taken from other muscians (probably a good 25% of their lyrics). Even the stuff that the Beasties play on their instruments is often them playing other people's tunes (old Crusaders songs and whatnot). This is not just the Beastie Boys doing this type of stuff, its all hip hop artists. The idea is to take old music and combine it and twist it in different ways to make new music. It sounds like you were operating under the assumption that the Beastie Boys don't borrow from other musicians. That's entirely false. The Beasties are known for their creative use of sampling. For example, here is a list of the people the Beasties sampled just for "Shake Your Rump" http://www.moire.com/beastieboys/samples/shakeyourrump

Easy E, is just doing the same type of stuff the Beasties do. He's sampling other musician's songs to make new songs. Its not a diss, its not something underhanded, its just the way hip hop is. Its also not odd at all, its very very very very very very common. Sampling is so common that any time you hear a hip hop song you should assume its made from sampling unless you know otherwise.

Y'all are incorrect here. What happened was...

Eazy E changed up his voice and did some cool lines like "beer drinkin', always thinkin', sniffin' and griftin'" on dat track of his. And since da Boys always pay respects to they influences, they str8 said lines like that all up on they first record like "Blah!"

I always found it weird how the Boys N the Hood record sounds like MCA with that line. So weird. Hip-hop is a small world. Believe me!! (y) I said some shit about someone and it got around to her. And then we got into some beefs. I'm try'na diffuse this whole thing now.

Somebody light da fuse so I can bring bad news!

Easy-E was just sampleing, and nothing more. Most, if not all, hip-hop artist do it; it's nothing big.

Pauls Boutique is considered one of the best hip-hop albums ever due to it's heavy use sampleing, so that goes to show you that B-boys also sample music/lyrics just like Easy-E. Though it's become more difficult for artists to sample ever since that incident with Biz Markie.

Technically, this isn't the Beasties "sampling" the Crusaders, its MCA playing the same bassline on his own bass guitar. To have a "sample" you need to to be using the original recording of the music.

In both of these instances, the Beastie Boys are using the same bassline they took from the Crusaders (one is a sample and one isn't), but they're using it in a creative way to make an entirely different song.
