my Mom was a hippy back in the days when she was carrying me and she smoked a little pot. She said it was only 3 joints during the whole pregnancy.
It explains alot about me.

my mom says that "back in the day" they werent so anal about pregnant woman having a glass of wine now and then. as long as its not a daily 4 drink a day habit. but cats, apparently, are evil and dangerous to pregnant ladiez.

02-03-2006, 03:23 PM
I promise, I will not drink any cats.

I beleive the whole having a drink while pregnant thing really depends on what tri-mester you are in. as I understand it in the later trimesters, one small glass of wine once or twice isn't really going to do much damage because most of the delicate developments in the fetus have already taken place. It's in the early stages of pregnacy when the fetus can be most harmed by substances like alchohol and drugs.
you're having a spritzer so it's half soda water anyway...I'd say that's probably ok.

yeah that's pretty much what all the books say.
And, more than half soda ;) I just wanted a bit of the taste of it.
And that taste was gooooood.
Also I'm thinking the seven IKEA mini-meatballs I scarfed down while drinking it are probably worse for us both, really.

my mum drank some red wine called Dubonet or something like that while she was carrying me. it was either supposed to be good for the baby or the mother or both.
that explains a lot about me
Ha! that's one of my mom's favorite drinks! It's an apertif-not a wine actually. However it tastes much like a dessert wine (port or muskat) does.

maybe your baby will be very easy going... it's supposed to make ya feel good...
then again, your baby could be depressed... it's supposed to be a depressant
my mom should've drank coffee while I was in there... I'm one of the laziest, sleepiest, most hypo-active person out there... god I need a pick-me-up... yawns

I've drunk so much hot chocolate during this pregnancy, I'll be surprised if this kid's first words aren't "I believe in miracles, since you came along, you sexy thing".

you can have one drink when pregnate,,does 'nt do harm!!
You heard me. I'm havin' a white wine spritzer, and you can't stop me.
Well, the downside is that you're kid is probably gonna be a retard. The upside is, if the child is male, he's probably gonna have a huge penis.
Cheers!

My mother used to sniff glue in the supermarket carpark whilst carrying me. Sure doesn't explain these headaches......
when did white wine spritzers begin to have any influence in penis size?
the spritzer is not the influence. the fact that he'll be a retard is. (y)

Only when I was in Japan.
Oh, and last month, I ate a small wedge of Camembert.
And, for a while, I was eating Nutter Butters pretty much every day. (In my defense, I didn't know about the whole 'avoid peanuts' thing at that time.)
I think I may also have had a tuna steak sometime in November.

Well, I don't think that you can say "will"; it's still just a suspected link. They don't actually know.
The theory is that exposure to trace amounts of peanut products as a fetus or infant can somehow prompt an allergic reaction later in life. For most people it's probably fine, but there seems to be more risk if either the mother or father suffers from hayfever-type allergies or asthma. I say seems to be because there's just no conclusive scientific evidence; there does seem to be some relationship but as yet it's not established that early exposure is actually 'causal.' (In other words, the risk may be just as high whether the child is exposed or not.) So as a precauationary measure, some doctors advise pregnant women to avoid peanut products during pregnancy, while nursing, and to avoid giving children under a year any foods with peanut products.
Easier said than done, though.

exactly, nearly all products have 'traces of nuts' and stuff.
those things get around!

Neither myself nor hubby suffer from these ailments - which is lucky cos i recently chomped my way through a huge bag of dry roasted peanuts.
What with Peachy and her spritzer and me and my peanuts we are pregnancy rebels! :D
