well, thats the last time i invest in a crap underground album. completely predictable, boring, and intolerably whiney. it had a couple of decent beats, but the only GOOD, interesting track was Grand Old Party Crash. what a waste of $16 bucks.

Well, at least I rediscovered Beanie Sigel's The B.Coming, which SHOULD be on people's Best Hip Hop of 2005 lists instead of this drivel.

he was here in seattle and did a free show at boarders
and only a handful of people showed up so he was like
ya i'm not going to put on a show, lets just chill out and
shoot the shit...but management got all mad and made him

dangerdoom on the other hand is a very non gimmicky superb not gay rap album.

Nah, Dangerdoom is gay.

I think Hells Winter's pretty good. And I definitely prefer it to The B.Coming, which (apart from Bread N Butter--that shit's nice) kinda sucked ass. You shoulda copped the limited edition version with the instrumental disc if you didn't. The beats are way more impressive than Cage's vocals.

I think he's a pretty decent rapper, he just a fucking annoying voice.

I'm pretty sure if you gave any random white person a microphone he would sound like cage. check the awesome 13-year-old-style chorus of the title track:

I'm trying to pick up the pieces
keep cuttin' my hands when I put it back together it's feces
in a permenant hell i find tranquility teaches
me how to design perfect masks around you creatures
we're going too far nobody can reach us
I'm starting to drown and I'm covered with leaches
until my last breath they'll be screaming from the bleachers
then I'll be dead like all of my teachers

did he go to school with mike shinoda or something?

and add that to the empowering, P.O.D-anthem beat, and you've got yourself a piece of self indulgent underground spooge right there. and no, mike, you need to listen to the b.coming again, obviously, because even the production more consistantly good than hell's winter's production.

and the fact that Beanie Sigel is a much better rapper than cage.

at least he has interesting, clever things to say. and has a unique voice.

i think cage has much more interesting things to say at the moment.

sigel, although a talented rapper, doesnt touch on subjects that arnt being banged out left right and centre.

cage isnt perfect, but at least its a departure from the usual. not that i dont like the usual, i do. but its nice to hear different subjects being explored.

I don't know about the different subject thing, at least on Hells Winter. The subjects seemed to be the typical underground stuff (one can argue the same about Beanie Sigel and mainstream rap or whatever). I mean, you've got your political songs, your my-life-was-so-hard-i-hate-one-of-my-parents songs, your breakup songs, your lol@hipsters song, your saving-hip-hop stuff, the obligatory drugs track... I don't know. All it's missing is the my-dj-is-better-than-yours one

have you ever listened to cage before? do you know anything about him? if not, perhaps this album wouldn't mean much to you. i'm pretty sure his story is quite unique tho.

hell's winter is a pretty fine album. i guess it's all down to personal taste, like most art.

Why? Are you obsessed with him or something?

I shouldn't say that Beanie's last album kinda sucks ass, it's just really underwhelming at times (and actually does suck ass at others). It's the proverbial apples and oranges juxtaposition, either way. I mean, why don't you just start throwing Conway Twitty into the argument while you're at it, man?

cage is enjoyed best when in the midst of a posse cut, or at least with one other MC, or maybe just El-P on HBMS II

you seem unnecessarily upset at this mike. are you ok?

i was comparing them in the sense that Hell's Winter gets mentioned in best-of-2005 lists while better albums like the B.Coming got ignored. Yeah, It's not the best album ever, or even in my top 100 favorite hip hop albums list, but in a year of mostly mediocre rap, I found it highly enjoyable.

I'm not upset at this at all, you stupid little whining skank bitch.

Anyway, I think The B.Coming generally got a lot more critical praise than Hells Winter, myself . I don't know what Hipster LOL Magazine was saying, but I don't think anybody in the media was really hugging Cage's nuts last year, not as far as I could tell.

Dude, I obviously thought that you meant year end lists that were compiled in actual magazines and on networks like BET, not by nerd ass nobodies like you and I on messageboards and such.

Oh, and you should read magazines, too.

the cage album received little to no press in any venue for the most part.

While it isnt a revolutionary album, it is a nice change of pace from the usual. Its even a welcome change from the standard stuff Cage had been putting out on past lps where the subject matter was tired.

Beanie Siegel was never that interesting and like its been said, its kind of invalid comparison being that the only similarities is that they both rap over beats...otherwise the two have nothing to do with one another.

The whole like...dissing "underground" (I hate that term) seems kinda tired anyway. Its like trying to purposely do the opposite of what the message board nerds say to stand out in some instance. MF Doom, for example, would still receive praise from me if he wasnt releasing crap as of the past year and a half.

Auton

I don't instantly hate everything on everything underground. I still really like Eyedea's first album (his second one was crap) and I love Aesop Rock. I like Doom, but am sick of hearing about him on this messageboard at least. Cage was just very uninteresting to me.

oh, and mike, i don't know about you, but internet people aren't the only people I talk about music with (lb)
