Key lime pie is kind of cake-like. It's sort of a hybrid, I think. I mean, it's the same texture as cheesecake, but for some reason its been designated as pie, which it really isn't. So I would probably say pie, if I were to base it on that alone. But pies, in the more traditional sense -- lard, filling, whipped cream etc -- isn't really my cup of tea. Except when McDonald's used to have those deep fried apple and cherry pies, those were awesome. But now that they've become all "health conscious" about their dessert choices, they've really just dropped the ball entirely.

But I have fond memories of the half-risen, chewy Duncan Hines chocolate cakes I used to bake as a child. So I'm going with cake.

Pie, I guess. I like pecan pie and maybe one of the creams--like coconut or banana.One of the kids' in marsbaby1's school turned 3 recently. The mom made the cake with that fondant fancy outer layer. It's not frosting -- I don't think it's even edible. But most people ate it! Yech.
