the only one of the first three worth seeing is Ep 3.
If I had to rank all 6 I'd probably go
Empire
New Hope
Revenge o'da Sith
Clone Wars
Phantom Menace
Jedi
Jedi and Phantom Menace were purely movies made to sell merchandise.

I just finished watching it yesterday for the second time. It is a nice segway and wraps everything up nicely. The battle scenes are almost matrix like, very involved. The dialogue is forced, star wars characters are the most melodramatic out there.
I really did enjoy it.

Oh, dear.
I think I'll bump it for now, then. :o
episode 3 was really good, but it felt too short. i think it could have been better if it was a bit longer.

I think pretty much everybody thinks EMPIRE is the best except my friend BearPipes, who thinks it doesn't hold up at all and hates all the Dagobah stuff.
It's my favorite; STAR WARS is a really close second, and REVENGE OF THE JEDI is a very, very wheezy third.

Yeah most people like Empire the most, I believe, including myself.
And also a-z isn't talking about the final SW movie, but the cartoon, am I right?

Yeah, everybody likes Empire the best. Pull your fat head out of your fat ass, Peter.
I've never heard someone actually complain about the length of Episode 3 being too short. It at times felt like I was watching a video game when I saw it. Too much going on. It was definitey the best of the prequels, though.

Yep. CLONE WARS, not ATTACK OF THE CLONES.
Oh, God -- AotC was just total crap. So, so, so bad. That's the first Star Wars movie I almost walked out of, except everyone had talked about how great the last 20 minutes were.
And they were just shit.
God, what a wretched movie.

Of the films (not cartoons), I'd go:
Great:
Empire Strikes Back
Star Wars
Okay, and curiously powerful at the end:
Revenge of the Jedi
Betraying crap:
Return of the Jedi
Poor:
The Phantom Menace
Flat out awful, betraying crap, insulting horsehit:
Attack of the Clones

The Clone Wars cartoon are defenetly worth seeing, you get to see why they kidnap the Chancellor Palpatine and will answer your questions on why General Grevious coughs, among other things.

I watched a bunch of episodes of it on the official Star Wars site. Liked it.
i think revenge of the jedi was the original title for episode 6, or something. i'm SURE i've seen posters that say revenge of the jedi. but really, anyone who calls it that now is just trying to show off (unless they've made a typo).
and then there's guys like me who explain the whole thing
i liked star wars the best, actually...it's just so deliciously cheesy at parts...dialogue has never been star wars' strong point and in the first one (a new hope) it almost seems like the actors don't even care about taking their lines overly seriously. i don't know how to describe it, but basically the cantina scene sums up pretty much everything i love about the movie. if it had been done with computer graphics it just wouldn't have been the same, the cheesy costumes really made it work, in my opinion. i read somewhere that lucas was unsatisfied with that scene, he just didn't have the resources to do it right, but honestly fuck him, i liked it the way it was.
"i have a death warrant on 3 systems!"
"i'll be careful"
"you'll be dead!"

Yes, Revenge... was the original title, but people who really want to show off call it Blue Harvest.

Yep. Then someone realsied Jedi aren't supposed to be vengeful and they changed it. Or something.
I don't think Pete's friend was trying to show off, just got the two titles confused.

Star Wars: A New Hope was the best.
I'm not going to say that it changed my young life, but I sure as hell knew that my relationship with movies would never be the same. That's why I can't even begin to explain how bad the last 4 movies have sucked.
P.S. I finally saw the last LOTR movie this weekend. OMG did that win an oscar or something? What was I missing? What a long boring movie. (I liked the Gollum backstory at the beginning.)

Did you see the theatrical version or the extended one? I didn't like the extended version so much. The deleted scenes actually added to the previous two, but did nothing for the final one. Like the Mouth of Sauron. Made sense in the book because of how it was written, but pointless in the movie. We already knew that Frodo was still alive because we had seen it, so when he says that the hobbit's dead it does nothing. Ugh.

I got the theatrical version. I knew that it would be more difficult to enjoy because I saw it on TV. (I saw the first two in the theater.) On TV, even though I was trying to concentrate, I found myself moving around and taking too many breaks. I guess that the big problem was that I didn't care about any of the characters this time -- with the first movie I was paying close attention to see if they got it right. With the second movie I just love the trees (my favorite part of the books) so I was excited to see them.
P.S. Don't ever see the extended version of Aliens. Aliens is one of my favorite movies but those extra scenes kind of ruined it. I think that often studios were right to cut movies.

Yeah, even though I love the theatrical version of Return of the King, I still skip over a lot of it. Mostly the Frodo/Sam/Gollum scenes. Actually, Pippin is the only character who's scenes I DON'T skip in that one.
And I loved the parts with the Ents, too.

Which ones? The Ripley on the space-station before she signs up to the mission ones? They were mediocre, but hardly "ruining".
Also, great movie to watch in 5.1 surround sound.

I didn't think it was wretched, but, boy, was it mediocre.
I liked the first one okay, walked out of the second, and sat patiently through the third. Twice. A friend wanted top see it with me as his birthday present. Afterward, I found out he'd already seen it, so I was kind of pissed. :D

The Prequels would have been 10x better if they had kept Darth Maul as the central villian in each three (similar to Vader in the orginals) the reasoning behind Count Doku I will never know...Revenge was a great movie, although if left more holes then filled. The whole sequence of when Anakin turns (when he kills Windu) is when it gets really good'
count dooku had a retarded name, but christopher lee makes a pretty kick-ass villain. i wouldn't have minded a little more of him. they could have at least developed his character a little.
also, i meant to ask this earlier, only i didn't; i've never seen clone wars, why does grievous cough? that bugged the hell out of me. and he has a heart. what's that about?

I'm not sure if you are talking about the Clone Wars miniseries or the movie Attack of the Clones. I'm assuming the miniseries because that's the title.
It's worth checking out, if you didn't bother to see them before the third movie you made a stupid, stupid mistake.

i'm pretty sure he's human, but has a bunch of mechanical parts.

About LoTR: A fairly accurate measure of how much I care for a person (my son, say) can be found in terms of which shit movies I'll sit through.
LoTR started out like that for me.
I was mostly happy to do those movies with my kid. For three years, it was what we did each year, mid-December, opening day, as soon as school got out.
I'd say I mostly loved half-watching him watch those movies. His enjoyment of them made my pain more tolerable and over time, I started to get the plot and the characters and somewhat look forward to the next ones.
Then came the DVD releases with the extra footage and commentary and those were events too. Countdowns, repeated viewings.
I was horrified once when someone asked me how I could sit through those movies and I defended them and their plot and length and the innumerable false endings for that last one.
If that's not love, tell me what is.
