For fucks sakes. What are you thinking when you get a sports car in automatic?

Just earlier, I was checkin' this Porsche 911 turbo from the exterior. Fuckin' fine ass car. Black, nice stock rims, duel exhaust but when I went to check out the interior it was a goddamn automatic which made my stiffy into a limpy within like 2 seconds.

Don't you guys understand that when you buy a sports car, you buy it for the performance over the fact that you have a nice looking car?

You have to unleash that beast and if you have an automatic, you're just keeping the fucker on the chain.

I agree, except in the case of a SL/SLK class Mercedez. With those automatic trannies are like 5-6speed with optional paddle shifting. A lot smoother ride...

But yes a turbo auto is a bitch car.

I agree with you on that. Mercedez is and always has been looked at as a car of luxury. It's the only car in my book that can get away with being an automatic. But a Porsche? Unless it's a Cayenne, it should be manual.

Yah, I'm not looking for a smooth ride in a Porsche. Looking for good handling, fast and hard shifts. Peeling some rubber. My Eagle Talon is an automatic, sadly, but it would cost me 2grand plus changing it. Would rather rebuild the auto tranny and other modifications.

You just feel closer to the car, which is the main idea behind smaller faster cars. Like a Lotus Elise , or Exige (drools).

I don't know much about cars, but this guy I rowed with last year, he's the son of a Russian millionaire so he had a pretty sweet BMW anyway. But he started his new job in investment banking this year and the other day rocked up in his new car:

Mercedes SLK, hard top convertible, AMG.

They're pretty good right?

SLK AMG. Holy fuck. Supercar. You can imagine how expensive, shits pushing 600 ponies, depending on the exact model. If I do remember its in around 130-170k.

Mercedez and BMW can practicly get away with the fact that they have a rocket under the hood and keep the whole thing as being "luxury." I don't mind that a bit.

But for Christ's sakes.

Hmmm, I'm gonna buy me a Porsche or Lambo....

I have driven manual transmissions for over 22 years. I never drove an auto, except on rentals -- and even then, I'd ask for a manual -- until the Corolla we bought last year. Now, we're looking at an Avalon, which only comes in auto. :( I was looking at the 5 Series -- which does come in a manual -- but it's too pricey.

The kind of people that usually can afford real sports cars are usually pasty white and don't know how to drive them. I think there should be a driving test for sports car owners -- can you accelerate into a turn, cause the car to fishtail, do you know how to stop as quickly as possible. If you don't pass, the car goes to me.

Hey man, aint nothing wrong with buying an Avalon automatic. The Avalon is a luxury car and besides that, it's a four door which would make it acceptable to being an automatic.

One thing I need to get used to is the new Dodge Charger. I remember when the first concept came, it looked more like the original but it was 4 door of course but now, they've scrapped that idea and made it look like something else and I'm not even sure if they have a manual option.

But anyhow Mars, Toyota makes a fine car. One of the most dependable cars and comfortable. I for a fact drove a 04 grande Camry (6 cylinder model) for 3 years and due to the fact that speed laws were only enforced with cameras, I know what power they posses. I think the Avalon has a little more hp than the grande and not just that, you have a family and there's plenty space. I do think you're doing a good job if you get the Avalon.

Yeah, a rabbit in 5 speed is what's common. I had a 96 Jetta for a while and it was a 6 speed. Nice car and good pickup.

You just reminded me though, I remember seeing an automatic VR6 GTI which also made me feel frustrated.

Oh and not to contradict myself. The cars that are more suitable to being automatic are:

BMW
Mercedez
Jaguar
Bentley

And God forbid the feelings I will have if I ever see a Bugatti coupe with an auto trans. It's the fastest made production car to date.

Honda s2000 = not bad, Nissan Skyline = hell yes, Eclipse = get fucked!, Nissan z = hell yes

word. european performance is a whole lot "nicer" and prestine than japanese performance. japanese performance is grubby and dirty but gets the job done.
