Talita: "they need to put some information in the fucking site, I'm tired of searching information when they could make it so achievable and easy."
*hunf*

Lyneday: "I agree 100%. When I was talking to people outside after the show last nite, one of them said he was just ont he site and didn't see anything. I told him it's all over the boards.

But I'm sure if someone goes to just take a quick look at bb.com, they're not going to check each forum/thread.

If the front page isn't redone to incorporate the movie, it should at least be a splash/pop up. Same with Solid Gold Hits.. no wonder sales are so down, people don't KNOW about it."

I Agree with these two quotes, its about time something was done about the lack of information on the website, and finding out things on the message baords, this should not be the way. this issue needs to be brought into light and dealt with. remember when TT5B was released and we fouind out thru Billboard.com not this site, i mean how much more important can you get than a release of a new album, that should have been in massive writing on the board but it took a month for a mention on the front page. there have been numerous other occasions but thats the most ridiculous one.

In all fairness, their greatest film moment is coming from work 80% done by the fans.

I see it as only fair that the fans are 80% responsible for delivering news on the band.

Awesome; we fuckin scooped that!

I looked at this site for a long time and received next to no real info. But when I came to the boards, a whole world opened up to me. Maybe that's just the way it is. It's the most DIY, Punk-rock internet concept around.

When I first came to this site which was some time after tt5b release (since I kinda overslept it beeing in post Hello Nasty hibernation - and didn't have an access to the internet earlier) I was dissapointed by the site. I didn't check message board because I assumed that it's not for me and I wasn't interested in chatting about random topics. It took a long time for me to actually visit the boards. And honestly when I did I wasn't impressed. Gradually I started coming more often but I only read in the press forum. And even after I registered it was the only forum I read for few months. If I didn't do much of my work in front of a computer I probably wouldn't be reading the forum. But because I need to do short breaks it became a habit to come here.

If you don't read all the threads it is really difficult to find any info here. I don't know maybe something is wrong with me but when I started coming here and I tried to find something without reading every single thread I only got irritated.

If you ask me I don't need to know everything about the band. I don't need to know what they're doing on a daily basis. I don't live in NY or the US so any news about apperance on the show or new concert doesn't do anything for me because I would never have a chance to get there.

But there are people here who are not so removed from the beastie world and who can enjoy their love of the band in more lively way notonly in front of computer or tv and it would be nice if there was official news about Letterman performance or Awesome premiere and screenings. People need to know certain things in advance. Everybody got their lives and no matter how they love the band there are probably few people who can leave everything in one minute and run wherever(concert etc.) when they are informed few hours or even days in advance.

Yeah the fact that to get solid, real news about the band, you have to come sift through their message board, it's total bullshit.

02-10-2006, 03:59 PM
As far as us fans go, I'm generally okay with recieving news, simply because it's always here on the board and as long as I know what's going on I'm happy.

It's the fact that the Beasties are really losing out more themselves that gets me. I'm usually supportive of the site, I think Minton/TPK are great, but at the moment it's just one of many aspects which I don't like about how things are going...the other being general promotion, which I think is letting the side down!

I joined a couple of other band websites in hopes of advanced ticket info. I don't like those bands half as much as Beasties, but those bands email me when they're going to be on TV, when they're touring, when they're releasing a single or remix, etc.

We should have gotten an email about Letterman. We should have some real info about the movie. I give big kudos to the fans who sift through other websites and spread the word, but it's gotten ridiculous.

It's not the admins' fault. I'm sure they're capable of telling us about stuff like Letterman if they were told in time.

I'd really like to know what in the hell the film company is doing. It's almost like they don't want us to see it. I'm the prime audience, I've made more than the usual effort to find out info, and I'm pissed off. It's stupid to piss people like me off if you don't have to.

id be really happy if mike d or adrock would just come on here and say, "thanks" they couldnt be that busy

In all fairness after all the bad talk, minton and others did help some of you get backstage at concerts. That definately dont happen with all the bands.

getting to the marketing and advertising: Yes it stinks, but when it stinks the most, all us hardcore fans still find out what we want to find out. You also gotta ask yourself, when were the beasties a commercial band. Even in the ill communication days, all we got was a silly beastie commercial one week before it came out.

Im glad the beasties arent to commercial and popular with the everyday mtv crowd. More for us!

I don't visit other boards but few months ago I registered to the websites of two bands because I was loking for some specific information. And since then I'm receivng e-mails from them informing me about various stuff. And though I'm not a big fan of those bands it's nice to receive official news.

Yeah the fact that to get solid, real news about the band, you have to come sift through their message board, it's total bullshit.

One more thing, I don't know, but probably most people don't take this fact into consideration. Beastie Boys have a lot of fans for whom English is not a native language. I got to know few people from different countries who are not fluent in English enough to read all the stuff and to post. I don't know if you noticed but majority of posters comes from countries where English is the first language. I don't think it's a coincidence and it doesn't mean that beastie boys have only few fans outside the US, Australia, Great Britain or Canada.
The main site should contain some straightforward information e.g The Beastie Boys are releasing Solid Gold Hits or The Beastie Boys are releasing movie - Awesome...
You don't have to speak English to understand that.

Also for somebody who just started to listen to the band the site should be something encouraging and not be an enigma. If you surf over the web there are thousands of sites that link to this site. They say if you want to learn more about the band visit their official site. But what are they finding here?

And I don't know whose fault is that because I don't know how this works. So I'm not directing this at anybody in particular.

At least the ThinkFilm guy was kind enough to come here and confirm the news about Letterman performance.

Mr. Smacktackle

It's really odd. The fans over here sometimes get to talk to a band member via the board, they even give us to shoot a movie for them, but some basic things, like news about the releases we don't get.

the site should be something encouraging and not be an enigmaSince day 1 the Beastie Boys have been something of an enigma which keeps me fishin for more. That said, I do agree there could be at least a pop up on the main page of the website regarding tv appearances and most certainly regarding a movie shot by the fans for the fans. But I'd hate to see them become marketing media whores. Could you imaging going to get a happy meal at McDonalds and having AIFST on your soda cup? *shudder*

*Adrock is remixing so and so song, it will be released on *****
* Beastie Boys will be appearing on Letterman on ******,
* AIFST is being screened in the following cinemas: --------------

sumthin along those lines, anything beastie related, magazne articles, pictures, parties they go to.......all this shud be on the news page on the front and not between posts on the message board.

I actually love that the Beasties don't pander and that they apparently have lives that don't involve them being celebrities and doing celebrity-type things. If I were Diamond or Horovitz, I'd go play and let Yauch do all the work too.

But here's the deal with the movie. I'm a cynical person. I used to be obsessed with movies. I've been burned many times. You get a feeling or a vibe before movies come out. There have been moments when I've wondered whether the lack of information is a result of someone's belief that the movie sucks. If you did something you're proud of, why wouldn't you shout about it? If you're embarrassed of it, you keep a lower profile.

The raves from folks who filmed it mean nothing to me. The positive comments from the few board members who saw it and who didn't film it mean more. So it apparently doesn't suck. And I'm even more puzzled.

I'm saying this publicly because I think that certain people should be aware that a lack of communication can cause unintended consequences -- especially if smart, motivated people are left to speculate based upon rumors.

I intend no disrespect, btw.

And I love M's spin that maybe we should actually be encouraged by the lack of activity here because the admins are busy getting ready for a big development. :p

The Beasties care about their fans. I agree to an extent about the lack of info being...well borderline stupid to be honest, but in terms of the notion that the whole film thing is for other people and not the fans isn't really fair. Preople forget that the GenArt gig for instance wasn't set up by them, it's all promo for the companies involved (i.e. ThinkFilm)...at least that's what I thought

Kid Presentable
02-12-2006, 08:04 AM
We're in pre-film days anyway. The movie doesn't even exist outside of these boards, barring a test run at Sundance. I think I might just remain patient, and reserve my judgement.

I'm not lying.

Oh, and I thought it was the 'That's It' footage from 2003 that got Yauch interested in the concept of this film as we now know it.

regarding ThinkFilm, they distribute the film, not the news....

there is alot of work to do, publicity wise, and I just dont think its close enough to the release date for a big media push... but I know they were involved in getting the film promoted on Letterman ( what more can you ask for from ThinkFilm at this point?)

Alex said so himself, when there are theaters and info to list, they will help get us the info...

its beastieboys.com and only beastieboys.com who need to get in gear, in this posters opinion...

minton agrees, he told me, he wishes the news was more streamlined, and he is passing along our concerns...

I remember the good ole days when I would sit down and watch the nightly Beastie News.

Yauch would give a weather report from whatever city they were touring in. Mike always had the up-to-the-minute stock/financial news. And Horovitz usually did the fashion & sports update.

Minton and tpk were scrambling around getting them coffee and touching up their make-up during the commercial breaks.

I know out here in LA, they say if there's a crap load of movie billboards, bus stop posters, appearances, etc... for any given movie to the extent where you cannot escape it, well, it means the movie truely sucks. They're trying to draw any fool into the theater they possibly can before word gets out that it super mega sucks.

just sayin

Yep that's spot on, although Yauch would often be demanding a pre-news report danish if my memory serves correct, Kent Brockman stylee

Oh, and I thought it was the 'That's It' footage from 2003 that got Yauch interested in the concept of this film as we now know it.

I don't think it's this clip becauce Yauch said it was only few secs. I have few clips from Pageant tour filmed by people. The only ones that are from shows before MSG concert are Morrisom and Vancouver. Vancouver clips are about 15-20 secs. Somebody posted them in Vancouver thread

Could be it ...or not.

It's been like 3 months since they've had any new news. Too bad they didn't post anything @ Letterman or the movie. You could have found the release out from google alerts.

I too wish there was a News section- one that was updated all the time. I don't like sifting through the message board much for a number of reasons (especially since I have little internet time since my personal laptop has been broken since, like, September or some shit last year, and don't have much time to go on the internet anyway). But it'd be cool, too, if some people stopped acting like whiny little fucks about it, and voiced their concerns logically. It'd be a whole lot better for fans with a News section- but it isn't something to get too huffy about; it's not like it's a right.

Hmmm, how would we voice our concerns logically, its not like we can talk to the Beastie Boys or even the Admins of the website face-to-face?

Something other than unfunny cynicisms like talita's?

Shit, I didn't say anything about the way you were voicing your concerns (in fact, my reply was just gonna be in agreeance with your initial post), but then I read stuff like this (closest example 'cause I'm lazy):

google alerts is now the publicicts for beastie boys

Because my first reaction to that was, 'So fucking what?'

My point is, yeah, it'd be good and even sensible to have an updated news page, but fans aren't owed anything by the Beastie Boys. Like, what I mean is, say 'we want a damn news page' but it sounds stupid to say stuff that kind of chides the band for not having one. Or something. I don't know, talita's post just annoyed hell outta me...

Well... Will the fans get paid for making a "news site"? - No
Why the fans do it? - Because they love the band
Do the band shows love-back to the fans? - ......
It was not "unfunny cynisms", It was my way to protest.

Because my first reaction to that was, 'So fucking what?'?

Unpleasant.

look...M's set up a site for the time being that gives the latest news. stop bitching, the beastie boys have been and are very good to their fans. So there's been a dry spell of news? We all know what's going on, the message board in a way is serving one of it's purposes. And again, theres the M's site so chill out.

my major concern over this whole thing is for the casual fans, or the people/potential fans the beasties are missing out on. naturally, if people hear about the movie and then see nothing on the frontpage I think theres a problem.

But for me, I'm confident and happy knwoing that there's a bunch of reliable fans here who get the scoops and the news fast. like, no ofence talita, I see you're just 'protesting' as you put it...fair enough, but saying it's 'fucked up' is taking it a little far. IMO

What I want you all to understand is that the fans that DON'T know read and write in english just have no ways to get some news from the band. I represent the fans who are illiterate in english, I don't know english very well... If the site had news it would be easier for, for example, brazillian media to translate it on mtv, magazines.. Cause they would be promoting. I repeat: No news about the movie here in my country. I really thank M and all others who bring the news, but it is not a work for fans... You all make it for love, why can't the band be more kind with us?

dave790
02-17-2006, 08:08 AM
Fair enough ^^^

I have little to no suggestions about that, I see what you're saying...I don't really no how it works though, the whole media issue that is...

But anyway I just find it a bit unfair that from one instance of a lack of news you think the Beasties show no love back to their fans. At the moment I can see it's frustrating for you, but unfortunately I can't see the movie (which in this case is the current major Beasties news) going all over the world.
