Alright everyone, tonight's the night. The most intelligent, well-acted, hilarious show that is currently on television, is having it's last hurra.
Arrested Development will be showing its last 4 episodes (up against the Olympic Opening Ceremonies, one final Fuck You from Fox). Apparently there's a 20% chance the show will be picked up by Showtime, but they will have to lose cast members. Either way, this is the last time we're going to see AD in it's prime form.
I know some of you will mourn this loss with me also. My friends and I are having an AD funeral tonight :(

...Fox really put them in a crappy position by not officially cancelling. I mean, do they try to wrap up the series altogether...?

I know, exactly. Because their "finale" would no doubt be amazing, but if they don't know if they're actually coming back how the hell do they do the correct send-off?

Yup.
I guess they could just do the amazing finale, assuming that, if they get picked up elsewhere, the Bluths could get into some more mischief.
Hell, put 'em on a chartered boat, the weather getting rough. The tiny ship was tossed, etc. Shift the entire cast to a deserted island.
That would be too, too weird. :D

The FOX people are fucking idiots. May the divine force claim their lives.
I'll miss you, Bluth Family.

I got home early and watched the last four episodes. There were at least 20 A+++ comic moments. Wow.
By the way, I blame myself and all my friends. Just about every person I know watches the show on DVD. I don't know anyone who watches it when it's aired.

clueless in seattle, i don't have the slightest clue. I'm usually never home on friday....so what the hell is it?

One of the best 1/2 hour comedies ever. Flawless cast. Full of inside jokes. Too smart to survive on TV.
It didn't usually air on Fridays. I watched the first two seasons on DVD (you simply MUST do this) and made a bigger effort to tape this year despite the stupid scheduling. They cancelled the show and dumped the last four weeks' worth of episodes to play tonight against the Olympics.
The same shit went down with Freaks and Geeks. After sporadic airings, they took it off for a while and then suddenly dumped the last three hours (including the Ben Stiller episode) on a Saturday. I was at a party when someone mentioned it, so I missed them until they were rerun on family channel (edited for Christians).

It's far from boring and is probably the smartest comedy on TV right now. Or I guess I should say it was the smartest comedy on TV. :(
If you find it boring it's probably because you don't get it. Unfortunately that seems to be the case with most people and why it's been canceled.

I totally dont agree with you, but I think the show you are referring to is called Quads (http://www.sbs.com.au/quads/). There is a guy who is only a head in that. I couldnt think of any other cartoons with limbless characters. Its pretty average.
Tis a shame about arrested development, but it was always gonna happen. Too smart/alternative for TV.

would it be a better fit on Showtime, or HBO for that matter??
I havent seen an episode, but from what I have heard it is along the lines of Curb Your Enthusiasm, with a little less improvising, a little more "sit-com" scenarios, but with celebrities playing themselves and storylines continuing through more than just one or two episodes...
i am intrigued, I'll buy season one and check it out....

he's talking about The Oblongs. and yes, that show sucks. it has its moments.
Arrested Development, on the other hand, is the best show to be aired in years. writing, acting - it's all spot-on. sigh. :(

Yes, at least this got more of a chance than Freaks and Geeks did...I still can't believe that was only one season. It feels like more though because they jam-packed the DVDs with SO much stuff.

from a salon article (http://archive.salon.com/ent/tv/review/2006/02/12/i_like/index_np.html) I just read about the cancelling of Arrested Develoment is enough to get me to rent it.
