Here's another thing. I think everyone needs to have a vice in at least some period in thier life, be it smoking, drinking, drugs, sex, video games, gardening...well maybe not gardening that's more of a hobbie. I think having a vice, living with it, working to overcome it (even if you don't ever succeed) builds charcter. and I say that whole process is good for you.

I guess I'm getting a little tired of the anti-smoking Nazi taking over the world. Even though I no longer smoke and I really dislike being in an enclosed, unventilated room with smoke, I don't like how smoking is becoming criminalized. I mean you should hear how my boss talks about smokers like thier on the same level a pedophiles or something. you know it's not that big a deal, it's just a little stick of leaves people burn. yes it's not good for you or the people around you, but people do it anyway because it feels good. And because I think vices build character, I don't really think we should ban them from all public places, but rather allow people to make thier own choices buy having smoking rooms/buildings etc. for every non-smoking place there needs to be a smoking place.

otherwise people are going to be goddamn boring I tell you. Vices bring us both pleasure and challenge. I say we need em.

At school it was fun playing with the vices in woodwork or metalwork. Crushing things and putting people's ties in them

i eat bad things, sometimes, but not enough for it to be a vice.
i'm really lazy, sometimes, but not too little for it to be a vice.
i drink too much, sometimes, but not enough for it to be a vice.
i spend too much money, sometimes, but not enough for it to be a vice.

just average really.

so you have a sign by your workbench that says "I don't ask to use your tools at work, so don't ask to borrow mine"?

i am the same way really.

its sort of a merry-go-round of semi-vices. before anything gets too prolonged to become a big problem it changes. recently ive been spending too much money. but my wallet is almost empty and so things will change soon. i'll probably get lazy next because i have been pretty exausted recently and i just want a break

No, nothing like that....although if someone were to try and use any of my stuff without asking I'd be tempted to give them a quick zap with my mig welder.

Actually the arc welder would be better, although the mig would feed burning hot metal into their flesh.

For burglars and thieves in general I have a nice antique to hit them with.....it's an antique kosh.

Actually, it's trained on your kitchen, and while we're on the subject, that's just gross, dude. You eat there.

But what's really funny is, loads of other people eat there too. It's a brave person who eats the mayo in my house

Sometimes my life seems like a constant struggle with my many vices. Meaningless sex, excessive drinking and drug use, laziness, pathological lying, and the rest. It's not easy being Padster ye know.

Have you ever considered working for the government?

Vices build character? Next you're going to tell me killing builds character. The unibomber is quite a character.

Let's not give ourselves excuses to not try too hard. Anyone who smokes, with all the evidence as to the additives tobacco companies put in, the cancer, and the cost is ignoring reality. It's your choice, but it's a stupid one. Eating junk food is your choice, too, but I don't do it as it gives me gas. Me having fast food gas is kind of like you smoking -- it affects innocent bystanders.

I lived a life of excess from about ages 18 - 24. I don't regret it, but I choose not to do it any longer. I still have vices -- being full of myself, for one -- but when I face and overcome them, that's an accomplishment.

No.

Or, as a politician would say: Yes.

This is so cool. Thanks for saying it.

This sort of thinking is why I started marathon running. To make myself understand that by approaching a problem incrementally and with measured self-discipline, I can overcome obstacles in my life. It's amazing when you wind up achieving a thing that seemed like an impossibility months before.

that is my point. you wouldn't be who you are today if you hadn't struggled with your vices, thus building your character. it is an accomplishment, and that's why I said people should to struggle with vices.

I dunno, I may not choose to live as I did in my early 20's either, but I like a bit of excess now and again. And heaven help me if I ever 'face and overcome' my porn vice.
