I have to rant on this now, seriously. I'm disgusted by the misuse of funds to pay for these shitty commercials. If anything we need "Be a good fucking parent assholes, so that you kids don't grow up into dick sucking crack whores".
Back to the "Public Service Announcement" of sorts. So I have to be above the "influence", in other words not smoke pot. What about liquor and tabacco, oh thats fine , just have to wait a few years. So why is weed bad, because the Government says so. I guess they figure they'd start brainwashing kids now, I'm suprised it isn't followed by a smoking camel cartoon. Or a Bicardi and Cola commercial (those are hilarious). So weed is bad, liquor good. Also drugs like THC lend themselves to abuse while liquor and tabacco aren't. Since in all these commercials involve someone completely blasted. Or some black kids running over a girl in a bike, or white kids biting down on the barrel of a nice "hunting" gun.
Are you above the influence? Because the influence is the bullshit tube you are starring into now, watching talentless hacks and crappy music videos.
Why not have a non-stupid Publice Service Announcement. Just like with underage drinking/smoking/sex, obviously telling kids not to do them at all doesn't work for the most part. Teaching them to make responsible decisions should be the priority. Fucking WASPs.

Iran/Contra , Cocaine Import Association.
There are some other threats the WASPs in power find in it, I suppose the whole movement behind it wasn't exactly of appeal to them to begin with.
be above the influence, don't give into peer pressure, follow your own spirit...oh and uh, listen to us when we tell you not to do drugs...what do you mean why? just don't, trust us
really though, i think bill hicks said pretty much everything that needs to be said about it;
That's what I hate about the war on drugs. I'll be honest with ya. It's what I can't stand.
Is all day long we see those commercials: "Here's your brain, here's your brain on drugs.", "Just say 'No'!", "Why do you think they call it dope?".
And then the next commercial is ...
"This Bud's for youuuu..."
Com'on everybody, lets be hypocritical bastards. It's OK to drink your drug. We meant those other drugs, those untaxed drugs. Those are the ones that are bad for ya.
Nicotene, alcohol - good drugs. Coincidentally, tax drugs. Oh, how does this fuckin' work?
Thank God they're taxing alcohol, Man, it means we got those good roads. We can get fucked up and drive on. Thank God they're taxin' this shit.

(y) Pretty much anything Hicks ever said about the use of drugs was completely spot on - all the stuff about drugs on the news -
"I've had some killer times on drugs" he would say, promoting their legalization. One of his most inspired routines picked out the irony of the U.S. government losing the so-called 'War On Drugs'. He went on to rail against news coverage which always focused on bad drugs stories, Hicks instead hoping for a different perspective: "Today a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves. Here's Tom with the weather."
And all the stuff about tobacco - Jim Fixx, taxation etc - its a shame the powers that be were shit scared cos he was tellin the truth that he never got his message acrosss to lots more people. If more people were aware of him and some of his ideas and messages they might take these Public service announcements with a pinch more salt.

DARE and these commercials have about the highest failure rate of anything imaginable.
Don't worry, kids aren't listening to these commercials.
