i was at a concert last night, and as per usual, i was hanging towards the back center.

pretty much during the whole show this very attractive looking gal was in front of me off to my left with her friend. i could hear most of her conversation, and she showed signs of intelligent life. she also had this awesome shirt on, that i enjoyed greatly.

but she smoked about a pack of cigarettes during the whole show, and that mad me sad

it seemed to be that way for all of the ones in my age group :(

Yeah but then again they aren't cute anymore , now are they?

I'm disgusted by the fact. Sign of weak character too.

I usually smoke when I go out. At least I used to. Now we have a statewide smoking ban so the smokers have to stand at least 25 feet from the door of the building. So that would put me, what, somewhere in the middle of the street? Its just not that important to me.

thats nice to hear (y)

i know numerous people who only smoke when around others who are smoking, or in such a situation like a concert where there are lots of people smoking around them. it just seems like a weird habit, and really isnt worth it.

and of course b-grrrlie! i went to see the wonderful black rebel motorcycle club based on your reccomendation (y)

shocked and stunned, mistah b, shocked and stunned!
i would have thought all those anti-smoking adverts funded with our money and starring old characters outta sharpe would have put you off, ew!
i think it's gross and it makes my clothes smell like shit. for once i would like to go to a pub [in scotland smoking is gonna be banned in public places in about a month, so i guess i shouldn't complain..] and not have to come home smelling like a stale ashtray. unnecessary laundry, yack!
i agree there is something sexy [mostly due to the allure of hollywood movie stars and such] about the way someone holds a cigarette, but the act of smoking itself is so repulsive and ming to me. if it was just a prop, fair enough. but no.

i know. i would be shocked myself if i wasnt myself.

my guess is that its something to do with the company i keep. pretty much all of the friends i have made post-edumacation are smokers so i have probably become less bothered by it...leaving me to be sucked in by the glamour side of tings.

I smoke and honestly I enjoy smoking a lot. And my only real motivation to try and quit would be the health risk involved. Infact, me smoking to begin with is just plain stupid on my part...it's proven that smoking causes cancer. It depletes the oxygen flow in your body which is obviously bad for you... and as far as vanity is concerned, it causes wrinkles, dark circles under your eyes, etc. Also, it causes heart problems. And I could go on and on. Therefore, the bottom line is that nothing good can come out of smoking. So, why do I keep doing it...honestly, I have no idea other than I like doing it. Plus, the fact that I'm 26 and that "invinsible-complex" probably has a lot to do with it...I'm young and healthy so reality hasn't kicked in that I'm not gonna stay this way forever.

Now, also, and maybe it's just a generational "southern" thing...but, smoking is almost viewed as trashy. And as I get older and am dealing with a lot of educated professionals in my line of work...I'm really conscious and careful as to whom I smoke around and what setting I do it in. I won't smoke during work hours...even though quit a few people I work with do it and go on smoke breaks all the time. And it sucks, but...YES, it does matter what people think about you and how you present yourself, especially at work. Like now I can't get away with going to a bar and getting shit faced and acting like a lush...cause if I ran into somebody, like a client or something...well, let's just say that would be pretty fucking embarrassing. Plus, the fact that I might get fired and I gots to pay the bills somehow. And trust me...I'm not one that really ever gave a fuck about what people thought about me. I always did my own thing. But, I respect the fact that's the way things are and I may disagree with it and not like it...however, I can't do anything about it. Bottom line...it's all about the choices you make.

the funny thing with smoking is that since its become such a publically aware thing, the way people go about it changes everything.

i mean, i know plenty of people who smoke that are wonderful people regularly. but when you put them on scene of their smoke breaks at work or what not, it just puts them in this ugly light, no matter how you look at it.

as an employer, it seems like that would be a big negative when hiring. because who really wants to hire someone that is going to take 10-20 minutes, several times a day to go out and puff one down? especially when you put that together with all the time that it takes them to stop and go again, you probably lose an hour of productivity a day just because this person feels the need to smoke.
