i was just thinking the same thing today. an episode from season 4 (or maybe it was 5) was on TV today that i've probably seen about 5 times before, and I still loved every second of it. very few shows have that kind of replay value.

I have never ever ever ever ...ever ever....watched that show.

In it's heyday, it was.

6 years of Homer having his limbs chopped off every episode since gives me a sour taste though.

I reckon they'll be studying the simpsons the same way we study shakespeare

i have to concur with this....at its height NOTHING touched the simpsons, absolutely nothing...

every other show i like is a good bit from the simpsons...it was the best.

although now...even when its bad...its still pretty good.

it still shits on family guy.

Yeah, good times. I'd say Family Guy is up there as a TV classic aswell. Fucking Fox.

eh, i don't think family guy's that great. i LOVED it at first, then it got taken off the air, and i loved the reruns on adult swim. but i haven't really liked the new episodes so much. and now that i've gone back and watched the old episodes, i realize that they're not so different from the new ones, and i'm not sure why i was so crazy about them in the first place. the simpsons is different, i hate the new episodes (rather, i would hate them if they existed which they don't), but even with them, i can still watch the old ones over and over and over and literally never get sick of them.

i'm not saying family guy's BAD, just...i dunno, overrated.

edit: the family guy episode with james woods is pretty good.

james: peter, this is thunderdrome. i think you'll really appreciate all the subtle nuances. see how in this scene, even though the other guy is talking, your attention is drawn to me?

peter: uh huh, that's great...is there any nudity in this?

james: yes! yes, i get naked.

but the simpsons episode with james woods was better. so you see how it works.

Simpsons did used to rule the airwaves. I loved it as a kid, i even at 1st wasnt even allowed to watch them. for some fucked up reason. but Simpsons was awesome, without a doubt. Family Guy i think is pretty hilarious and takes comedy to a diff level that Simpsons wouldnt dare attempt.

Family Guy is EXTREMELY over rated. You could cram every good joke in that show into one episode.

So many layers of funny though. A lot more intelligently written in a lot of way, than the simpsons IMO. Different strokes I suppose.

The problem with Family Guy seems to be overdoing the joke.

Peter: "Hey, this is just like the time I insert bizarre scenario here" *cut to bizarre scenario*.

Whereas the Simpsons and Futurma are more:

Homer/Fry: "Hey, this is just like the time I insert bizarre scenario here" *bizarre scenario left to viewer's imagination*

yeah...family guy could be basically be called "hey remember that time when". or "30 minutes of non-sequitur 80's references"

the simpsons/futurama is just SO much better written, too. they actually manage to have stories that go somewhere (IE, have a beginning, middle, and end), and be legitimately funny at the same time without relying on just random gags all over the place. much. some simpsons/futuramas manage to be damned emotional, too. there's an episode of futurama (http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/5348/seymour29lq.gif) that's actually brought me to tears, and there's been more than a few simpsons that have made me come very close (mother simpson, for example). family guy doesn't do that.

The episode where Fry discovers that his nephew was named after him made me shed a tear or two :o

I think I'd just like to say that my favourite line ever is when Kif is having a baby shower and all the guests are talking and amongst the nattering you can hear Fry saying "...my face was stuck in a pizza" :D

I concur

Family Guy = over-rated

don't get me wrong, i'll still watch every episode. But the "that reminds me of.." started wearing thin a few seasons ago. I still crack up at some parts tho, which is why i'll keep watching it. Stewie beating the crap outta Brian recently was pretty funny, and I liked the little build up "what happens in 24 hours?" "oh, i dunno man, I'm not psychic"

another thing that bugs me about family guy, is they need to get a few more voice actors so it's not always the same voices

ah yeah, that one tugged at my heartstrings a little too. the nephew one, not the kif one. i hear the final episode is sad too, but i can't think of what it is. i might not have seen it, actually. but if it's not about dogs dying, it can't be as sad as the seymour one.

man, futurama was a great show. maybe it ended too soon. or MAYBE the sixth season was going to be a shitty one that would ruin the reputation of the show the same way the shitty seasons of the simpsons does for...that...show.

simpsons at its worst > family guy at its best.

the futurama vs simpsons comparison is null to me. Same creators, a lot of the same writers. They have similar styles of humor.

i think im going to go home tonight and watch season 7 on dvd now...

but yeah, family guy i've always enjoyed, but it definetly knows how to drive something into the ground. it bugs me when some people continuously quote the same lines from family guy and its so stupid because it has no context.

i've become a fan of that show that they have between simpsons and family guy. the war at home is what its called i think. that isnt too bad of a show, and certainly beats watching american dad

i was just discussing the other day whether there are people alive who actually strongly dislike the simpsons. there must be people who aren't that great a fan, who can take it or leave it, but for someone to downright, fullstop, endoftheline hate it? naaah. it just can't be.

i think there should be a non-stop simpsons channel!

Simpsons at their peak... yeah; it might've been the best TV so far.

I used to think that Cheers two and three was there, but re-watching it, it isn't that great.

Same for the Dick Van Dyke show, but it's not, either.

West Wing two is a contender, though, and that definitely brings us into apples and oranges territory.

Twilight Zone was too uneven.

X-Files? Twin Peaks?

Especially the Training Day episode.

And the moment when Tim turns off his mic, talks to Dawn, then comes back.... that's huge.

I've been reminiscing (sp?) about the old simpsons a lot. I'm gonna have to buy the dvds because they only show repeats of episodes from like five years ago..never the really good old ones.

One of my fondest Simpsons' memories..

One of Grandpa's nursing home friends singing at the end

"This old man just ain't what he used to be, ain't what he used to be..."

And when they first aired, I remember crying in a Burger King BEGGING for a Maggie happy meal toy.

I love Futurama, but these shows are supposed to make us laugh not cry!!

EDIT: Unless they are tears from over-laughter, of course.

The Simpsons is unbelievably crap these days. I used to love that show but now all it is is just bad gay references, no jokes and not a laugh in sight.

Time for them to cancel it. Its ran its course.
