Film Festival releases linup (http://www.madison.com/wsj/home/local/index.php?ntid=74670&ntpid=1)
TOM ALESIA talesia@madison.com
Movies starring Luke Wilson and Cate Blanchett and another made by the producer of "Chronicles of Narnia" rank among the most noteworthy screenings at the eighth-annual Wisconsin Film Festival in Madison March 30 to April 2.
But, judging from past fests, the event's treats also will be found among the other 160- plus films, ranging from a blink-and-you-miss one- minute short to a weighty Romanian epic.

Festival officials announced the complete lineup on Wednesday - and tickets will go on sale online at noon Saturday, according to first-year fest director Meg Hamel. Hamel replaced Mary Carbine, who left to work in Madison business after building the fest into one of the nation's top regional film extravaganzas during her six-year tenure.

Hamel said festgoers should check the fest's Web site - www.wifilmfest.org (http://www.wifilmfest.org/) - for updated information about online sales. She also said the addition of Hilldale Cinema to the event's many Downtown locations will ease fast sellouts.

Chicago film critic Roger Ebert will appear at the festival to introduce a restored print of the 1944 classic drama "Laura."

Hamel said the festival will continue its efforts to showcase Wisconsin films as well as national and international independent movies. Documentaries will be highlighted, too, Hamel added.

Among the other expected popular events are a Beastie Boys concert film, which will be shown at the Orpheum Theatre on opening night, and films directed by Steve Buscemi and Danish festival favorite Anders Thomas Jensen.

Festival ticket sales reached 24,000 each in 2004 and 2005.

The Daily Page, Madison WI (http://www.thedailypage.com/daily/node/1057)

A lot of buzz surrounds the brand-new Beastie Boys doc playing at 9 pm Thursday, March 30 at the Orpheum Main. Awesome; I Fuckin' Shot That! was filmed by amateurs who were handed cameras at a sold-out B-Boys show in New York in 2004. Hope the sound system at the Orpheum is up to the job. This film plays just once...

omg Miramanee, *sigh* it kills me that I cannot be there for this. You know I would if I could in a nanosecond if I weren't across the globe right now. After all, I am a homegirl. :( I'll see if I can contact any friends back in the land of cheeze and encourage them to attend. Gosh, have fun, sounds like it'll be a one hell of a screening.

M you interviewed Will Farrell?! That kid who never returned that Sabatoge video was cool.

After having watched this tonight for the 2nd time, it's really fun seeing this review. You know I expected no one to be in the theater with me tonight, but nope, there were about a dozen of us. (secretly I was hoping to be the only one there so I could get up and dance my ass off!) 2 guys sat right behind me and it was cool, cuz they clearly did not attend the pageant. To hear their reaction to the instrumental float and the intergalactic session in the crowd was fun! They were pretty surprised by it all and I loved hearing them rap along with the movie. Imagine if they saw the dog show was all I could think. As I was watching it, I couldn't help but think, man, a lil herb would be a nice accompaniment to this film... um, yeah.
