This morning I decided to go grocery shopping, so while I was waiting in the check out line...Patsy Ramsey got in line behind me. At first, I wasn't really paying attention, then I glanced behind me and noticed her. She was sorta dressed down and looked much older than I remember her from all the news coverage during the hipe of her daughter's murder investigation. So, I kept occationally glancing back, trying to be subtle about it so she wouldn't notice...to make sure that was actually her. And me being me, I had to at least say something to her because it's not everyday that you run into somebody "famous"...except now that I live in Atlanta I'm seeing famous people out and about quit frequently. However, I was trying to think of something appropriate to say, as an "ice breaker"...I mean she's "famous" only because her daughter was murdered and she has been through complete hell, as a result. So, I politely asked her, "Are you Patsy Ramsey?" And she said, "Yes I am." Then, I told her that I had just recently moved here for a job and that I live right outside of Buckhead. She went on to say that she lives in Buckhead (which I already knew that from hearing about it on TV) and that she loves it here and it's a nice area and that I should like it here...blah, blah, blah. She's seems like a really sweet lady...very soft spoken. Anyway, as I was leaving I told her bye.
Anyway...I thought that was kinda cool. As soon as I got home, I called my family and some of my friends and told them.
I don't think I would have recognized her.
I used to see Lorena Bobbit all the time when I worked at an hour photo place. She used to work at the Benigans across the way and would drop off her film all the time. I always got the goose bumps when I had to deal with her and would do a crotch check when she left.

running into famous people sorta comes with the territory here. i love how non-so cal people freak out about it though. i don't mean to sound condescending or anything but it's just a fact of life here. i rang up andy griffith last week and didn't realize it until he left. pretty much all the time when someone asks "is that..."
...it is.
Yeah but did they slice of their husband's penis and throw it in a ditch? I didn't think so. SCORE!!!!

Well, really the only reason why I recognized her was because I had watched a lot of all the news coverage and storys done on TV about them and the whole ordeal...I was really interested in the case. However, I wasn't sure at first and wondered if I should even say something. She's put on weight and her face has really aged.
And Lorena Bobbit worked at Benigans? Huh...I would think that she might have had quit a bit of money by then from all the deals being made in her telling her "story"...like book deals, etc.

Well, my cousin is David Keith...the actor. Everyone at first is like..."Who the fuck is David Keith?" He's mainly a B-actor...starring in such films as, Snap Dragon, with Pamela Anderson. But, he was also in the movie, Dare Devil, with Ben Affleck. He played Ben's dad in the movie...the boxer that was killed in the beginning of the film. He was also in the older film, An Officer and a Gentlemen, with Richard Gere. He played, Oklahoma, Richard Gere's friend in the movie that killed himself. It seems like he's always being killed off in all his movies, too. Anyway, now he stars in a lot of Sci Fi flicks.

when I was in L.A., I yelled out of the window, "hello famous?!" to see if I could find any famouses. it didn't work.
but like I said before, newscasters get their stuff framed where I work. which isn't that cool really.
OH! but we just saw Demetri Martin record his first comedy CD last weekend and Will Forte was there and we saw Seth Meyers outside the theater when we were waiting in line to get in. I gasped. I think I also saw Jello Biafra.

Let's see, what else...well, my brother went to Columbia in Manhattan and he became pretty good friends with Julia Styles. They had a class together his freshman year. They'd eat lunch and grab a beer together occationally. She dated one of his best friends on the rowing team.
And he knew Anna Paquin...the chick from all the X Men movies. She also went there. And, also, that guy from Third Rock from the Sun...I can't remember his name. He played the younger son.
But, here's the reeeeally cool thing...my brother was an extra in the first Spiderman movie. Parts of the movie were shot on campus. Oh hell yeah...you can see him in the background of one of the first scenes. He's the guy wearing the red shirt.

Hey, the man has moved up to B+ standing now...He's in the tv show, Crossing Jordan AND he's marrrying Rebecca Romain!
I saw her back in November '98 at a church in Atlanta. I wouldn't know who she was if she hadn't been pointed out to me and I still wouldn't be able to recognize her now.

Really? You know who I'm talking about? :p Just kidding...he's done pretty good for himself. I mean, being an actor as a profession and making money from doing it is tough as hell. Yet alone being in A-list films...the market is completely flooded with a lot of wanna-be actors.
And, yeah, I see him from time to time. Actually, recently, another one my cousins was in a play at The University of Tennessee...and I saw him there. He's an alumni from UT, as well. Our whole family went out to dinner afterwards. Plus, he came to a lot of the UT games when I danced there...so, I'd see him all the time then, too, and talk to him on the sidelines and stuff. It was really cool cause everyone was like, "He's your cousin?!" and I'd be like,.

i find it funny when people make a big deal about famous folks. the way i figure it, they have to live/walk around somewhere. new york is pretty chill with that shit. other than the paparazzi, no one gives a shit who's where. actually, the paparazzi is more annoying cause they block foot traffic. i hate the paparazzi. ugh. *flips hair*

No, not literally. That's just the faced used for when people want to express that they thought something/someone was cool or hot shit. It's not real.

This kind of seems ridiculous to me. You said it's a big deal to you to see "famous" people, even though now you see them all the time? I would never approach someone who's been through a trauma that was broadcast all over the world, they deal with it enough. It's not like you talked about that, or something, but I just don't really understand why you felt the need to talk to her. I could understand maybe an actor or someone you admired...
Along the lines of famous people, I do get excited when I see someone who is my idol or whatevs and I've had the chance to meet a lot of them due to Sundance so that's cool.

Um, how is recognizing someone who was on the news everyday for a year and making a little small talk with them, without mentioning anything about their "traumatic" experiences, in any way more ridiculous than obsessively stalking "people you admire" -- both famous and unfamous -- ALL THE TIME, Barb?

LOL yeah, London's a bit like that as well.
The other thing that cracks me up is when people who aren't used to seeing cross dressers see one and can't stop staring. Whereas if you live in a city you're like "Oh a tranny. Her tits are kind of crap. Nice boots though."

Hmmmm, well, let's see...I didn't realize that I was coming across as trying to make it a big deal in my life. Cause in the overall perspective of things...it's really not, right?! More or less just a conversation starter..."I ran into Patsy Ramsey today at the grocery store...So, how was your day? Anything interesting happen?...blah blah blah...so on and so forth" And as far as being excited about meeting her...well, actually, the word excited is not the best description of how I felt...it was more like that I thought it was kinda interesting, I guess, because it was rather random...I mean, we were at the grocery store of all places.
Now, as far as, me acting "inappropriate" by saying something to her to begin with, simply because she is now basically considered a "public figure" solely only because of a famous horrible event in her life...well, I was very careful as to not seem overbareing and aggressive in my tactics as to how I started a conversation with her. I didn't approach her...she was standing behind me in line. Really I had no where else to go...I was blocked between her and the person infront of me with their buggy. And the conversation was very light and fluffy and, for the most part, short and pleasant. It was not a long drawn out deep discussion.

I guess maybe it was the comment that you went home and called some people to tell them about it. No, either way you obviouisly were not some psycho who talked to her about the trial, god can you imagine how many people she's ran into that have done that? ugh.

Yes, you're right...I'm not a psycho, nor would I ever bring up anything about the case. I wouldn't do that even with someone that I knew well, yet alone a complete stranger.
I understand where you were going with that comment and I totally agree with your point...it was just completely judgemental and rather harsh.
You're all good! (y)
