I just filled out an e-Harmony profile because I'm lame and bored and was intrigued by what a co-worker had told me about it. She said that the questions and results were quite indepth, even in the trial phase of the sign-up process, and my curiosity was sparked because personality profiles are very interesting to me. ANYWAYS...
She was right, it is extremely indepth, and for the most part, my results were pretty accurate. However, one thing that was definitely way, WAY off was the information regarding "spirituality." I ranked the importance of similarity between the BELIEFS of me and my partner very highly when those questions were asked, and for some reason, my results repeatedly state that I should be with someone who's involved with his religious community. Pretty comical considering the fact that in one of the very last sections of the lengthy questionnaire, I checked the "is not spiritual or religious" box for my religious affiliation and that of my potential mate.
Why is the word "beliefs" CONSTANTLY linked to religion? To me, a person's beliefs are comprised of their morality and what they prioritize in terms of their ability to be the best person they can be. A person can believe in being faithful to their mate and not lying and not killing and not fucking people over without being totally crazy about Christ. It seems that that line is so blurred nowadays, and I don't understand why. I realize that moral structure is guided by religion for a lot of people, but for just as many, it's guided by what they know to be right and just based on their upbringing and their own personal views and experience.
Why's it gotta be all about Jesus all the time, dudes? Anyone?
