your flow is so on point on this song it's great. I have to say I never would think you rap and your voice suits the beat. The line about hines had me laughing, if anything just fix the vocal levels and I notice some spots where you had to catch your breath but when your rapping as fast as you were then of course your going to have to. That was ill man, I have to say you supirsed me greatly.

thanx q......that track is 12 years old, hence the older references......but it did grant me many accolades including semi-finals in a national unsigned contest and an offer from a record label.......

this track's a little more recent...

I'm just curious, how exactly does all that work...once you get an offer from a record label? Like, first they give you an offer, then if you agree to the terms and conditions of the offer...you sign a contract with them. Then, they promote your music and pay for all the expenses that go along with that...and pray that it sells, so they can get their money back, basically. And, you get a percentage of the sells (according to the terms of the contract you signed). However, more than likely, it's basically not much...because they are in it to turn a profit. Plus, they own the rights to your songs and can drop you at anytime (and simply pay off your contract) if your music is not selling and they are losing money on you.

Is that basically, right?

So, anyway, what happened...did you take the offer? And, if not, why?

i've been recording since '86.....i made a demo in college in the 90s and sent out a lot of tapes to record companys......i had a lot of connections thru the college radio station, so i used them....the Stylin & Profilin track was the one heads liked the most......i talked to guy at tommyboy but he said my style was too 'old school'......like thats a bad thing......anyway, i got a letter and a call from from an independent label that wanted to hook me up......but they wanted me to front some money to get things going....but this was after i graduated college and i was broke......plus it was a small label and i was hesistant to work with them......so things never materialized.....but i entered S&P in a contest out of Vail, Co. and it made it to the semifinals......a guy who used to listen to my radio show has a label and group and just asked me if i'd be interested in doing something in his dj's studio.......so i might bless the mic once again!!!

That Stylin & Profilin track did kinda sound '"old school" for '94, but it was done quite well. Your voice reminds me of Ice T's old partner, Donald D. All in all, pretty tight track.

Incidentally, I came across this (http://www.spinemagazine.com/music/february/donaldd/notorious.mp3) classic the other day.

Decuts, nice beat work. And basically the same as what Q said.

It's the whole style. And probably the tempo of the track. At that time, Wu was blowing up and bringing a more rugged and dirtier sound. Think Black Moon, Nas, Mobb Deep etc. Shit was slowing down and getting grimier. The beat you were rhyming over sounds like something that Kane would have used. Like I said, it's not a bad thing, though. I liked it.

i think there's more to being 'old school' then the pace of the rhyme.......most of my tracks are slower paced.....but i don't consider them to be 'new school'....i prefer my stuff to be old school....its a state of mind!
