I am always amazed that Ugly Duckling are not huge - they have made some of the best hip hop I have ever heard.

Good video

yeah UD are cool, but the video was fucking lame. they aren't huge because they are white, unattractive geeks, and that void is already filled

thats the exact same reason why i imagined they would've been huge by now,,, being white alone.. i mean thats good for at least 20 magazine covers, 50 favorable website reviews, 14 TV interviews and full support and backing of the media hype machine for at least 6 months.

well they keep falling between chairs, sometimes they are up there with jurassic 5, blackalicious etc, and then with videos like this it's more goldie lookin' chain.

I think their first two releases (Fresh Mode and Journey to Anywhere) were absolutely awesome and its those records that I cant believe were not bigger - they got quite a bit of play in the UK and Europe but seem to have been largely overlooked in the States. But those albums IMO were as good as anything in the chilled hip hop style - Jurrasic, De La Soul/Native Tougnes etc.

I thought Taste the Secret was too much of a gimimic to get mainstream success, I think by that point they realised that they had not blown up as they thoght they might and were trying something different. I mean I really like that record but I am not surprised that it didnt go multi platinum or anything.

Have not heard the new stuff yet apart from Smack and a couple of others.

btw - I got to meet and hang out with them once (I watched Wrestlemania with them) they are nice guys but the geek thing comes accross even more in person than on video! Im a geek tho so its all good - geeks rule.
