Why do some people have a + next to thier name

It defintiely is buddy list - I only have two buddies (awwww!) and it only comes up on their names.

before the remodelling of the site there was a little section on the main index where you could see if you had any new pm's and also see if any of you "buddies" were online. it's for that sort of thing mainly. no real point in using it now since it doesn't really do anything. except for adding that plus sign.

Can't you add someone to your buddy list, then go to Quick Links, open your buddy list, and check if they are on-line? Not sure if someone is on invisible mode, if it blocks this feature.
