View Full Version : People on eBay get a bit loopy, you know?

So I've been poking about on eBay, looking for things to buy for the bambino at maybe a bit of a discount - I'm not too much of a snob to buy a second-hand changing table, you know? But I can't believe how many people will pay close to or even above retail (once shipping is factored in), once they work themselves into a bidding frenzy.

for example: this one changing table (used) I bid on ended up selling for £73. Plus £10 for shipping. So that's £83. Now, I can buy a new one from an online retailer for £79.99, with free shipping.

So I'm thinking the best thing is I just buy it new, and then in two years time after potty training I sell it to some moron on eBay for more than I paid for it, no?

I have a friend who has a financial crisis, so is selling his extensive martial arts movie DVD collection. This bodes well for him.

oh many a time i've been there with my finger on the trigger 30 seconds before the auction is due to end so i can get the satisfaction of winning over the bastard who keeps on upping his bids but has relaxed prematurely so now i'm gonna win it aahahehehehehahhahahohohohoh!

but still, i would never pay more than a product is due. i mostly by games that are about 10-15 quid cheaper on ebay than if i go into a store. and prints for my wall, etc.

i say buy the spanking new stuff and then sell it off.

not even a ticket to a show with all your favourite metal bands at one small, atmospheric venue for less than a dollar?

Can't you automate it, so that it automatically bids your maximum alloted amount for the item at the last possible second?

i've just bought a rare record that i've been looking for for over ten years.

i've also had success buying and selling tickets for gigs on there.

ebay has its uses.

peachy, i would sell/give you our baby gear, but we may have another one day. sorry love ;)

ps. we never bought a changing table: just put a changing mat on top of the chest of drawers you will no doubt be purchasing for said bambino. they do roll off quite easily tho, so hmmmm. but still, changing doesn't take more than a few seconds (once you're practiced).

'tsalright; I bid successfully on another one later this afternoon and won it at £25. Not the same model, but this one retails for £59.99, so I think I did OK (y)

this little gem is how you can make the $ if you can analyze the normal prices of goods, and then catch when demand is high.

I bought a drum machine off ebay for 80 bucks once, it was crap and two months later sold it for 120 when there weren't many auctions for it.

I'm convinced if given enough caffiene I could make a nice little living off of doing those kinds of deals.
