Any rumors that they might play a secret show at SXSW?

Well, MMM has a show here next Thursday the 9th. But the B-Boys don't have their interview and then film screening until Wednesday, the 15th.
Not sure if they have something up their sleeve or not, but, man, it would be a lot cooler if they did.

Also, when Grand Royal had their showcase here in '97, that was the rumor at the time, that the B-Boys were gonna show up and do a secret show.
Word built up pretty big they were gonna be there, and the night of the show, the Electric Lounge was bumrushed. Fire department came, had to hold people back, it was wicked.
But we only got Mike D up on stage yelling at the top of his lungs during Atari Teenage Riot, as they all told us they were "sick to death."
Still, highly entertaining.
but a man can dream...

I hope we get some official news on this.
It seems too coincidental that MMM is in the area...and all three will be in Austin for SXSW.
It doesn't appear Mike and Horovitz were too involved with putting the film together...so I'm hoping they're in town for performance reasons.

I just checked the SXSW film site, and the Paramount is booked solid from Friday the 10th to Saturday the 18th.
The B-Boy's film is slated to play at 6:45 on Wednesday the 15th, and then there is another film starting at 9:30 (V is for Vendetta).
So, it doesn't look like they can squeeze in a set.
The Paramount, although they do some righteous concerts at times, is a full-on film venue during SXSW.
If they are playing some where, I don't think it will be the Paramount.

Unless they are keeping this fact from even us, there's no performance at the festival but the band will be at the 6:45 screening on Wednesday March 15 for an introduction and Q&A. They will also be doing an audience interview before the screening that is open to anyone with credentials from the festival. Check out the festival website for details - http://2006.sxsw.com/film/

why is it that all three show up for the non-ny events but its only yauch for the march 28 event?

Fans in every other city in the world would be tickled pink to have "only Yauch" show up for an event in their city. Heck, most fans would be happy to see a cardboard cutout of Yauch propped up in the lobby of their movie theater!
Come to think of it, a cardboard cutout of the man would probably be as animated as the real thing. :D
Off to investigate how much it costs to produce one of those cardboard cutout figures...
yeah!
the only thing I have seen here is a sun dameged sticker for 'solid gold' very well hidden, and that made my month- several times.
I think I would get a heart attack if there was a tiny 'awesome' related thing here.

You New York fans get too much. It makes you not appreciate what you're given. Fans in every other city in the world would be tickled pink to have "only Yauch" show up for an event in their city. Yeah, a cardboard cut out (http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/5115/bgrrrl3yi.jpg) would make us happy indeed!

Haha!

I discovered I can get a cardboard Yauch with a recordable voice box made for under $200. Anyone want one?
:p Can you make him whisper sweet nothings? ;)

Miramanee, my access to the board was cut off for more than three weeks with some tech glitch on the message board side, so I haven't had a chance to go back through all of those posts during that time to see specifically which questions I didn't answer. Plus, I have a job that requires me work on other films and do more than just paruse this message board, so I can only do so much. Sorry.
If you need to know something specific or immediately, send me a message, I check the board often. Otherwise, I'll answer as much as I can, which I have. I highly doubt you'd see another studio exec out there spend so much time to address questions from the fans of any movie.

so far alex has provided...
-info on the Letterman show
- the Unscripted clip
- the link to the trailer
- the link to the official website with the list of selected cities
- info on Carson and the scoop on Conan
- returned countless e-mails to rabid fans
yeah I'd say Alex from Thinkfilm has gone beyond the call of duty for the fans at this message board (y)

Maybe MMM would divulge some info.

Is the MMM show at Sky Lounge really a free show? The ad in the Chronicle says that Camel Lights or some other cigarette brand is paying for this event, and I don't see a price for tickets.
And what the hell is their dress code?
I can't believe MMM is playing in a place with a dress code.
He'll probably be the only one allowed to wear a t-shirt.
Austin is definitely weird.

03-08-2006, 12:05 PM
Their website is www.skyaustin.com and it does say it's a free show, just be ready to get in line at 9. Their dress code only says "upscale and fashionable" which I would guess means no hats, a shirt with a collar?, no flip flops or tennis shoes on guys (I've seen that before). I'm sure MMM will be breaking every part of their stupid dress code, even though I'm sure he will be fashionable :)

I just read the fine print, and it looks like DJ Swamp is gonna be there, too.
If we are hoping that the B-Boys will show up to do some songs with Mike, should we be hoping Beck shows up to do a song with Swamp?
That wouldn't be too shabby.

I could see a Beck/Beastie Boys show...Especially since his last album he obviously is trying to be like them.
Has anyone noticed and/or know if the awesome i fuckin shot that site is correct? I'm going to have to run off a plane in boston to see the march 23rd show if they aren't showing it in texas during the march 31st release...according to the website they aren't giving the south ANY love...I hope I'm wrong, I know I'm going to want to watch it more then once on the big screen :)

OK, so the board was down this weekend, so I could not access any of y'all for any gossip.
I did not go to the MMM/DJ Swamp show last Thursday, so I don't have any scoop.
I worked at SXSW all weekend, and all I heard about the Beasties is that they are expecting a HUGE overflow for their panel discussion on Wednesday (they are opening up 3 extra rooms for the panel, this is NEVER done).
As far as a secret show, the only rumor I heard was that they MIGHT play after Morrisey (sp?) and before Goldfrapp on Thursday night at the Music Hall.
But that is an uber-rumor, and I am not weighing too much strength in that one.
If anyone has heard anything else, let's hear it.

Just got word that they will be playing w/ the Pretenders and some other big names at a private party for some big promoter by the last name of Atall or some shit like that. Sucks ass that 98% of the people there will be from out of town and we can't even get in to a show in our own backyard. Anyway its supposed to be Wednesday night after the movie premire at the Paramont in a warehouse on lamar & barton springs which used to be a bike shop (its behind the Schlotszy's deli). Anyway sounds like a chase to me but you can bet your ass I'll be there and let you know if anything comes of it.

Ok, that makes sense. The "Attell" in question is Charles Attell, who is either the owner of Stubb's Bar-B-Q, or is the promoter for them (not sure which). He is also the big promoter who puts on the Austin City Limits fest. He is a big cheese, and brings in loads of cash for the city, and gets some extra room with the noise ordinance. He also just won some huge nation wide award for promoting shows.
That being said, his after-parties (which are always private) are the stuff of legend. Two years ago Joan Jett and the Blackhearts took to the stage at 3 in the morning, and I heard the guitartist was butt ass naked. When my friend left the party at 6 in the morning (holy Ice-T!), he said they were rolling 4 more kegs in for the party goers.
So, a private shindig with the Beasties and the Pretenders does not sound too out of the ordinary for him.
But that old bike shop behind Schlotzkies? That might be a bitch too sneak into.
I'll see you in the bushes.

That is the Dude. Apparently he is some kind of badass since he is also responsible for booking this years Lollapalooza festival whoever this guy is you know he's got the hookup so I'm hoping this show will go off as expected because the rumors are definitely swirling around town.
