Okay, so last night or this morning rather I had a little mini bitchfest on here while on break from a marathon day/night of bookbinding. (It's in the thread about comix in BF.) Now our flight to Ohio has been cancelled, we're leaving tomorrow, so I thought I'd share what I was up to.

Here I've assembled a tray out of binder's board (the stuff that's in the hard covers of hardcover books) and am getting ready to cover it with fabric. My mom passed down her neglected stash of fabric when I was home for Christmas, figuring I'd be more likely to use it with my newfound passion for quilting. So when I decided to make her a box for her birthday I figured I couldn't go wrong using fabric from her stash. Pretty safe bet that she would like it.

You can see the covered tray here and in front of it is what I spent the better part of last night (or rather this morning) working on. I got to the part where I had to hammer a chisel through the case so I could thread the ribbon through and, not wanting to disturb my neighbors, took the opportunity to go to sleep. I picked it up here this morning.

The tray and the case are ready to be glued together. That was a good feeling.

Everything is drying under weights. Also a good feeling. Inside the tray you can see a black box which is a smaller version of the same box being made here. Inside it is a tall stack of photos so it's nice and heavy. The Altoids tin is full of coins and makes a handy weight. As you can see, art books also make very good weights and have served me well over the years (as weights and for inspiration).

Done! The box open, and closed.
One good thing about our flight being cancelled is that now the flap that's a little curved in the photo can dry under weights overnight and should be be nice and flat tomorrow and evermore.
Hope you enjoyed this! Now I'm off to take a nice long nap. (y)
(If you would like to share a similar photo essay, by all means...!)
