My friend just called, and there's this guy that apparently really liks her. She goes "well if he likes me that much he should at least put me on his top 8. I mean you're in his top 8".

I said "It's just myspace...I wouldn't worry about it too much".

Someone was talking about how they got "myspace bitch-slapped" because they were deleted off someone's top 8.

So fucking stupid.

I do like the Top 8 function. It allows you to display the people that mean the most to you, rather than just the normal random 8 (besides, does Tom have to be on EVERYBODY's profile?).

But I totally see the can of worms it's created. While I haven't had problems, I can totally see how whether being on person x's "top 8" can make or break someone's self-esteem from those attention starved emo boys. :rolleyes:

I actually had people complain to me about not being in my top 8 or being moved from it... then I took them off my friends list because I finished high school about 5 years ago, I rather not return to it.

When I was at the Sundance Beasties show put on by Myspace, the guy who got me in, was wearing a shirt with Tom's userpic on it. He found Tom later that night and took a pic with him...I'll link to it later, his myspace is down lolz.

I messaged this chick the other day who lived close by, and she added me as a friend, so i was like "ok sure why not"....then she im's me and says "You should add comments to my pictures"

Somehow I manage to have a myspace and I've never experience any of this drama. It's just a place for people to leave you messages, catch up if they haven't seen you in a while, it's less invasive than a phone call. It's basically email with cute pictures. I don't understand why you have so many problems with it.

i almost made a myspace account; and then i didn't.

unreal, it was purchased for $600+ million. the whole thing has become a giant demographic marketing tool. people spilling their guts for all to read. i like privacy to much i suppose.

I don't know if you are talking to "me" as in "you", but I haven't had many problems, just this one friend saying that made me laugh at how dumb that is.

I like it for the bulletins about bands shows around town because I'm always in the dark about that stuff.

It is strange though, I do poke around other people's pages sometimes and it's weird to know things about someone I would probably never ever know otherwise.

my "top 8" consists of Echewta, someone I know in REAL LIFE (oh my!), some dork in a tux, said Dork's girlfriend, Tulla, ALRUGGS, a girl who was on here for like two months and then went away, and Beth.

Why? because I've never changed it and will never change it. I've got friends who are mad at me because their not in my "top 8", but I really don't care. I've never been obsessive about myspace, and have consitered deleting my profile, but it's the only way I can listen to a lot of great bands.

I've got so many friends now (479 today, maybe more tomorrow), but 95% are bands. It's easier than being on all their mailing list. Also I can keep my friends from different forums collected in one place to send messages to. Swedish bands have now realised the power of My Space as well, and I've found a few that I know IRL and hopefully we'll have a drink or three next time we meet (at least we have something new to talk about now LOL), I saw one of them actually across the street the other day, but as I don't know her real name I couldn't call her, we're always at the same gigs and she always smiles so sweetly, but we never got to talk yet. And two others were at a same gig last Sunday, but I didn't see them (I went to the front pretty quick, didn't hang around the bar, the way I usually do), just found out from MySpace that they'd been there too.

As I have so many friends I change my Top 8 often, usually every weekend, making a theme of the bands. I might do some of the different forum members sometime, but hten I'd have to change so that I can have more than 8, which you can do with this (http://www.r4wr.com/friends/), where you can make to have up to 40 friends. Then there's a way to make your friend's pics look whatever you like, see Michele's (http://www.myspace.com/queenofbrmc), she started of with Lichtenstein pics, candyhearts for Valentine and now St Patric's theme :D

This guy Tom.....does he send you an e-mail as soon as you join? If this is the same guy then I am much releived. I filled out all that Myspace crap about a year ago and about fifteen minutes later I get this message from Tom.....only I don't know who the fuck Tom is. All I know is fifteen minutes after I join this shit I got this guy sending me his picture and telling me he would like to be 'my friend'.

I haven't been on MySpace since. I feel better now that I know he does that to everybody. Shit had me tripping for a minute.

yeah. i don't see how people get their e-panties in a bunch about it. i just use it to keep in contact with friends i don't see much anymore. i've never used it to meet anyone or anything.

I don't get worried about being in someone's top 8 or not. I sometimes feel weird about having changed mine though, like it might make people feel bad. I just put up the people I see most in real life, my friends' band, and my friends who moved away that I like to check on every now and again.

We got another couple of cases involving teenage girls who were raped by guys they met on myspace. My friends who are prosecuting them still haven't seen the website and they can't understand how sickos use it to lure girls. I think all prosecutors and cops should hang out on myspace for a while.
