I made it to China and stayed in mainland for a while and then went to Hong Kong for my first time for 3 days. When I tried to come back to the mainland, they denied me because my visa is only a single entry.
It's something I really didn't think of because if you look at the map, Hong Kong is in China..It's kinda like if I'm in the states and living in Ohio, they need a seperate visa to enter California.
Anyway, the immigrations officers took me to Macau which is real close to where I'm staying and told me to apply for another visa to enter China.
It's not bad, it's just another unexpected place for me to visit. The climate's nice and warm and there's casinos galore so, it looks like I'm staying in Macau for 3 days. (y)

it's great as usual but while in Hong Kong, my wife wanted to eat some traditional Cantonese food so we went and ordered Dim Sum. I really didn't favor it too much. It's almost too bland and you have to drown it in soy sauce to get any flavor out of it.
We've been eating local foods from the mainland but we've been eating mostly Japanese foods.

Yeah, plenty comes up. I didn't make it there this time around but when I went the last time, I experienced such an eerie feeling..

so... tell us... what's your experience been like? i was getting my hair <cut> and the lady was telling me about chinese friends who went back and had a good standard of living over there - telling me that it's not as bad as they say living in a communist country. what have you seen?

The living here is really no different from a non communist country. One thing you might notice is when you go to a restaraunt or whatever, the service is very very good because of the fear of losing their job over one mishap.
You can also notice that there's many street vendors who possibly have a main job but due to the government holding most of their pay, they have their vending jobs for a little extra cash.

Oh yeah, another thing you can see very vivid of the country being communist country is the alcohol and tobacco industry.
In the states or other countries, the alcohol and tobaccos usually are named after an owner or a founder IE, Jack Daniels, Jim Beam, Phillip Morris but in China, all the tobacco and alcohol products are named after states and provinces of China and very seldom named after people.

a friend was telling me this one story about a group project he had in a class
the teacher told themto get in groups of 3, and that nobody was allowed to be from the same country. well he found 2 guys, one from china, and one from taiwan.
the guy from china said that they couldnt do it since taiwan was a part of china. the guy from taiwan said he wasn't from china, and that they were ok.

Yeah, that's fucked up. Like some civil affairs they've got.
It's also the same in Hong Kong in Macau hense my difficulty with the visa. Macau is only seperated from the mainland by a building which is the border and once you get on that side, they drive on the left and the driver's side is on the right. In mainland, the driving is just like the states.
