View Full Version : my first acceptance letter came in today
huzzah! i've been accepted into quinnipiac university school of law. it's not a great school, i applied there because i had a strong suspicion that i'd be able to get in, it was a safety school, really.
i also applied there because i was told by my friends i'd be able to get a substantial scholarship. and they were right! they gave me $25,000 a year and all i had to do was check the "yes" box in the "do you want to apply for a scholarship?" box (that and get a 163 on the LSAT). holy shit. i'm not sure how much annual tuition is off the top of my head (and the website's down right now) but man, $25,000 has to be fucking close.
now i just have to see what the other 5 schools that i applied to say. what a day!

First of all, congratulations!!!
Secondly, what kind of law are you going to be studying?
no idea, i figured i'd get accepted first before i figured that one out.
at least now if my acting career doesn't pan out i have something to fall back on, hey!

Congratulations, Bob! It's so good to have something for sure.
Where is the school? I'm woefully ignorant because I only had one real choice.
I do have a friend who went to law school on full scholarship. It was in a crappy town in mid america, but she graduated at the top of her class and she's doing really well today. And she had no debt.

If you decide to become a defense attorney in the state of Illinois I have a handful of acquaintences that could put your first five kids through college.

congrats bob!!!! i hope i get in when i apply, i dont think i will
it's in hamden, CT. i still can't get onto the website, but i found the tuition for 2004 through google, it's about $30,000 full-time plus 8,000 for room and board, so it's not quite a free ride. still, though.
i'm not sure if it'll be cheaper because i'm in-state, though, the website didn't say. i could always commute from home, too, if i had to.

haha, i'll keep that in mind. one of the schools i applied to was valparaiso in indiana (i don't know if that's close to illinois, all i know is that it's more towards the middle of the country than new englad, and it also begins with an 'i"), so you never know. that one's definitely at the bottom of my list though, moreso now since i got into quinnipiac.

Thumbs Up (y)
huzzah! 2.5 more acceptance letters! western new england (not a great law school, but A law school) accepted me, and they're giving me a full scholarship! the only thing i'd have to pay for is books and housing and fees, and i looked at the numbers, and i think i can afford it without taking out any loans at all. that would kick ass, i think.
i also got into UConn, which did not give me any money at all, but it's actually a decent law school, so i have that to think about.
and i got waitlisted for valparaiso, but fuck valparaiso, i don't really want to go there. i'm actually a step above waitlisting, they got more qualified candidates than they have available seats, so i'm "admissions pending" which means i'll be one of the first people they consider if/when a seat opens up. but really, fuck valpo, when you think about it.
now i'm just waiting on northeastern and boston college. i probably won't get into boston college, but hopefully i will for northeastern. northeastern has a sweet program, too. there are no grades, and the way the curriculum works is you go to class for half the year, then you work at an internship for the other half. you don't get any breaks, so you still get out in three years. all i ever do on my breaks lately is work anyway, and you'll still be paid for the internship, so honestly, i'm pretty tempted to go there if i get in. but we'll see...we'll see.
man i kick ass

Man you are getting your ass kicked by fees. I only pay like $5,200 per year for tuition and $350 for union fees, the former deferred interest free until I earn over $35,000 a year. Although a scholarship sounds sweet.
Ohh yeah, and congrats (y)

Oh, okay.
But first, we'll start off with a movie quote:
GRAHAM (to John) "...of course I pay taxes; if you don't pay taxes, you're a liar. Liars are the second worst type of scum on the planet."
ANN "What's the worst?"
GRAHAM "Lawyers."
ANN (to John) "Oh, that's you, honey!"
...it's not that it's so funny, I just have a soft spot for that movie.

yes you can... if you value the name and what you can get outta the place, you can finance it. names on your resume are an investment... they pay off

there's always loans...of course if you do that, you kind of have to graduate and get a decent job, but hey...it's incentive!
i didn't get the letter yet, but i do know for almost a fact that i've been accepted to northeastern, because i got an email telling me about an open house for admitted students, and in the body of the email, it says "congratulations on being accepted!". so that's neat. i also got an email about a panel regarding merit scholarships, so maybe that means i got one of those, too? we'll have to see, the email didn't say anything.
that just leaves boston college, which i don't entirely expect to get into, because i'm just barely at the median LSAT score, and i'm at the 25th percentile GPA (or 75th percentile, whichever the bad one is), and also i applied kind of late. well before the deadline, but still sort of late, relative to other students. so i dunno, i don't expect to get in, but it's ok, because i've never received a rejection letter before, and i'm curious to know what one looks like haha i rule

Id rather go in debt $100,000 and have what i want than trying to pay off tuition by working some minimum paying job.
I knew this jersey girl that came down and went to wvu while i was their and tuition was 4 times more for her than it was for us instate cool kids. Instead of taking out a loan she worked at krogers for minimum wage and tried to save money to pay for shit. Instead, she still dont have enough money to pay off her bills and she doesnt do anything for fun.
Have fun, enjoy life.
Go in debt(y)
ok, i just got the acceptance letter from northeastern, they're giving me $8,500 a year (tuition being $32,700 a year). i'm still waiting on boston college, but assuming i don't get in, i think i've got all the information i need to make a decision now. i can either:
A) Go to western new england (a low-tier law school) for free
B) Go to UConn (a good law school) for $17,000 a year.
C) Go to Northeastern (which has no grades and an incredibly attractive Co-op program) for $24,000 a year.
All that is before living expenses and books and such, though.
Of the three, I think Northeastern is my top choice just because i am REALLY drawn to the co-op program; the school basically gives you a job, and chances are you can keep it after you graduate, so you're pretty much set for life, if you want to be. And I do want to be. Decisions decisions
