See, I don't understand the flap about this.

I mean, personally, as an athiest, it wouldn't occur to me to look to a faith or a god for guidance in making difficult decisions.

However, if you are a person who has religious faith, then isn't that exactly what it's for, really? A way of examining your conscience in the light of a higher power to whom you feel you are ultimately answerable?

To my mind, what Blair has said is much, much different from Bush and his "mission from God" "crusade" talk.

Much ado over nothing, I think.

Incidentally, if you paid attention, you'll notice he did not say that god is responsible for who died, he only said that he is accountable to god for his decisions.

Sure he's on his knees, but it's not God who is guiding him in this quest. It's ExxonMobile, Chevron and Atlantic Richfield. Oil War pure and simple. Ask the people who are still alive in Darfur (http://www.savedarfur.org/).

Bushleaguer.

Exactly right

Blair has said countless times he is a christain - that means he believes that ultimately he answers to God - there is nothing new here.

Im no Blair fan but you have to pick your battles and there is nothing here

yeah sure ,be atheist, bouddhism, catholic, jewish,,,but damn, please examine your consience properly.I dont think that Blair really ,euh, examine is little conscience!
Maybe i am mistaken, maybe it was a really moral act to go to war and kill. :D

I think it is similar but not at the same intensity. He didnt say that god tell him to do war(no BUsh tell him),but he put the deaths of people on HIS arms in a way because he said thta god is the ultimate decison maker.

Maybe he should consult another god then.God was in the potatoes the day that Blair consult him on the war issue.

No, he did not say that at all. What he said is that he - Blair - has made the decision, and that he is ulitmately answerable for it before his god. There is a huge difference. He isn't saying that god made the decision; he said that god will make the final judgement of his decision.

i think it's cowardly, personally.

i think he's using this as a scapegoat to cover himself for any decisions he makes that the people don't like, because in a country largely populated by christians, he hopes they'll beleive what he said about god, and agree with him, or atleast understand, by just saying 'god guided me'.

i think a lot of anti-war christians would be offended by this.

in all Abrahamic traditions, God is the ultimate judge. i don't see what the problem is. He is fully aware he will be judged.

why he thinks god wouldn't send him to hell, i don't know.

I think you're off base there. As you well know, people in the UK tend to be quite wary of poiticians bringing religion into the political sphere. I think it was actually fairly courageous and honest of him. Remember, he did not initiate the discussion; he made his remarks in response to questions he was asked, and from what I can tell from the words he actually said - not the ones the media seem to want to sya he said - he hasn't said anything other than that he is accountable for his own decision.

Last nail in the coffin (hopefully).

...not that Brown's going to pull the UK out of Iraq, or anything

Everyday another billion dollars is being spent and the death toll creeps higher. How far would a billion dollars a day go researching alternate energy sources vs. mayhem/death/war and profits for military industrial complex/oil corporations?

Is this what you ask as a World Leader when you talk to God?

Then you decide the former? Even with slipshod intelligence? Then once you realize it's a mistake, you carry out the decision? Until you run out of money? Haven't we as humans suffered enough for our oil addiction?

God will correct his ass, that much is for sure.

What have they done to the earth?
What have they done to our fair sister?
Ravaged and plundered and ripped her and bit her
Stuck her with knives in the side of the dawn
And tied her with fences and dragged her down

I hear a very gentle sound
With your ear down to the ground
We want the world and we want it...
We want the world and we want it...
Now
Now?
Now!

Persian night, babe
See the light, babe
Save us!
Jesus!
Save us!

So when the music's over
When the music's over, yeah
When the music's over
Turn out the lights
Turn out the lights
Turn out the lights

Jim Morrison, the doors

God wants us to learn the hard way.

because we wouldn't believe the answer was truly from the divine.
