One of my absolute favorite lyricists... What are your favorite Cohen songs/albums?
songs:
Famous Blue Raincoat
Everybody Knows
Suzanne
The Master Song
Bird on a Wire
Chelsea Hotel No. 2
Dress Rehearsal Rag
Take this Waltz
albums:
I'm your Man
Songs of Love and Hate
Songs of Leonard Cohen
(Death of a Ladies Man makes me upset: It's really too bad Phil Spector (as usual) ruined a potentially great album. The older I get the more I hate him. I thought I would like it alot more than I did, that somehow other people decided they wouldnt like it before hand and that's why it never grew on them. But man.... I don't even understand why he even thought those arrangements were good ideas in the first place)
edit: and yes, I know everyone else and their mom hates that album
"i won't say anything cause no one will listen to me anyway, i might as well be a leonard cohen record"
sorry - that's all i know of leonard cohen.
i've just gotten into him recently. i'm really liking Songs of Leonard Cohen and I'm Your Man. really great albums. (y)

i can't take leonard as a vocalist. but when i find someone else singing one of his songs, the end result is pretty desirable.

I have a friend who is deeply in love with his music/poetry. I'm pretty sure she'd be a Cohen groupie, if they existed.
Me, I'll listen to him.

Cohen is wonderful. My favorite songs by him are : Avalanche, Story of Issac, Who by Fire, Joan of Ark, Sisters of Mercy.... my favorite album is Songs from a Room.
The cover that Nick Cave (another amazing artist) did for Avalanche is simply AMAZING - you should all really give it a listen. It creeps me out every time... in a good way.

Winter Lady is superb.
If you folks like Leonard at all, you should watch McCabe and Mrs. Miller. Altman used his songs exclusively for that score. It's a masterpiece, if you don't mind your movies a little slow. (y)

Wow -- this Leonard Cohen I'm Your Man documentary is driving me a little nuts.
I'm over an hour into it, and it's little interview clips with Leonard interspersed with concert footage of other people doing his songs (no Leonard, yet); the interviews even interrupt the concert songs, too, so it really is like, "Who's show IS this!?"
But what's really driving me nuts is the concert performers. A couple people carry the songs well, but, so far, all but one of them is reading off a teleprompter or lyric sheet. Hard to get invested in your performnce if you didn't even learn the fucking WORDS.
And it kind of belies the appearance altogether, you know? "I'm such a fan, I admire this artist so much... um... what songs did he write?"

oh and nick cave's "im your man" was terrible. you know, actually, alot of the performances annoy me because their very loung-ish, which can be fun.. but not for a catalogue as serious as cohens.

I just saw this yesterday at Popcorn Music Filmfestival and I have to agree with az here. I didn't even enjoy Cave's second cover ^^^.
U2 did a rather good work, even tho sometimes Bono gets on my nerves.
And Rufus is always campy (and whatabout Antony? ).
Yous all go and get the compilation I'm your fan (http://www.leonardcohenfiles.com/cover5.html) if you want other people's covers of Leonard's songs.
