i'm looking to buy a laptop. i need it for my music tech so it will need a good prossesor and quite a bit of memory and ram. not really too bothered about graphics and i already have a sound card. so basically, just a good amount of storage space and processing power.
i'm not being fussy about the weight, just as long as it's not impossibloe to carry around.
i'm looking to spend up to 600 pounds so, obviouisly, it won't be the best on the market, but i'm just looking for help to get the best for my money.
can anyone give any help/advice.
p.s. is a dell inspiron 6000 worth getting?

HP/Compaq, stay the hell away from dell.
Acer is also a decent brand or Toshiba. Take your pick from those, I wouldn't know specific models but I do know they will be a much better product that Dells.

i'll keep that in mind, thanks (y)
although i do have a DELL pc which has been consistently good.
Using it for music? Get a Mac.

Dells are great for the typical consumer. if you're going to do anything that requires high performance, stay away, though. Their customer service is the best.

dells are good for laptops...their pcs are dogshit because if you want to upgrade you have to use dell shit for the most part.

My gateway is like that. fucking propritiary case that can't accept any upgrades that don't come direct from Gateway. I can't even buy any PC cards because it only accepts "half-size" cards, like broadband connecters.

yeah i'd really like a mac laptop but they aren't cheap, and i'm not really on a high budget...
i might go with this one (http://www.laptopshop.co.uk/acer-aspire_3004_lc-laptop-3-n2.htm) but upgrade the ram. i'll need atleast 500+

Because the quality is crap. If you wan't a decent computer that will laste you and isn't made of flimsy plastic materials stay away. Also they offer a very small selection processors and packages.
Apparently the only thing they have going for them is good customer support, you'll need it.
Apple being at one end of the spectrum, Dell at the other. Quality/Engineering wise.

Hardware: Dell to Buy Alienware?
Posted by CmdrTaco on Wednesday March 15, @10:22AM

An anonymous reader writes "Well, looks like rumors are flying, and Dell may have bought Alienware according to an article on cnet. It really would fit Dell well. They are the last big manufacturer not to use AMD, and this would fill that void. Acquiring this company would also help them grow their business to where they want it to be ($80 billion anually). One can only hope that Alienware support and hardware won't be ill effected by this acquisition."

...might want to wait until the rumours subside before you make a decision on that laptop !
