Warning: This is pretty disturbing stuff. :(
Amazingly, he survived, and sued the organisation because of the incredibly slow response of the rescue service.

This one is the hardest to watch. When they've pulled him out.

I'm damn glad he survived.

Rare occurrence if I'm not mistaken. I'd still be one, if I had the talent.
And no one pulled over to help. Bastards, that's truly fucked up.

That's the rescue service's job. I guess they didn't think he had survived.

Okay that was crazy! I somehow found that guy who was waving the flags like crazy to be quite funny though.
It's great they survived though.

I haven't seen pictures of him but from what I've read he's gotten badly scarred.
I think his helmet melted to his head a bit.

Buh, where is the sportsmanship man. Seriously if you are passing by (slowly mind you) and you see no recuers on either side of the place and the F'ing car is a blaze. Shit, put 2 and 2 together.
I would understand if they were passing by full speed, but they not, becuase there are pieces of cars on fire.

What would they do? Try to extinguish the fire with their breath?

Heh, no but attempt to pull him out. They are all wearing fire retardent suits.
But you are probably right, only have the memory of the video, haven't replayed it to see if there were any open spots.

Also, incase he had back injuries, you would want to wait for the professionals.
I haven't watched the second video. if it's gruesome, I can't handle that shit.
it was pretty fucking bad, but I totally understand why the other drivers didn't stop to help him out. that was a pretty bad fire, and I'd be suprised if there isn't regulations that say you can't get out of your car and help out. you need trained professionals for that kind of stuff.

I don't think in this case they would take their time, only try to minimize neck movement. Do they put the fire out before they pull someone out? I don't know of the regulations here.
I've seriously seen better response at SCCA races where the rescue people are volunteers. Dumb bitches. Hopefully and more than likely new rules and better response times will come of this.
Would like to see some statistics, wonder if you are more likely to die or receive serious injury from just daily driving or race-car driving.

This happened back in 98, and they've improved the rules and stuff since then. But something like this shouldn't have to happen to make them realize.
They fucked up bigtime.
I remember reading that he didn't get as much money from them as he wanted. I can't quite remember the sum of money he got, but it seemed kind of trivial for something like that.
Matt, the second video has got no gore or anything like that, but you can see he's obviously in a lot of pain, which is disturbing.

I see what you mean

can you see his face or hear him or anything? I'm not afraid of much, but I can't take that stuff. A friend tricked me into watching one of those "faces of death" videos and I socked him in the face.
i was wondering why no one was helping, but imagine instead of 2 cars blocking traffic, there were 4 (2 people helping). it would be diferent if there was a safe place to pull over to, but there are still guys racing by going 130+ km/h. i'm sure there are rules on what's suppose to happen if this stuff goes down.

Really? Ouch.
I saw a picture of him after the accident. He looked quite good actualy, after the circumstances.
He had probably gotten a new nos through plastic surgery though. It looked a heck of a lot better than Michael Jacksons.
there was a thread in a perth-based imports forum a while back. had tonnes of details about it but i think it got purged or something.
shocking stuff.

Can't believe they left him in that 800-degree car for almost a whole minute.
Those driving-suits sure did a good job though.

if you pull a man out of a burning car, the leave him more than 2 meters away, and just don't leave him
