Yeah. I missed the whole Nirvana boat and recently mentioned that to a friend who then proceeded to send me a copy of the "With the Light Out" set.

Holy crap! -- these guys are good. Some of the demos really sounded like demos -- just scratch recordings to get the songs down -- but, dang. This set is pretty rich.

Oh yes, there's some truly awesome stuff on that set! And what did you think of the DVD portion? Those rehearsals in 1988 at Kris Novoselic's house was obviously quite amateur (they needed a good dose of Dave Grohl and obviously more practice, too), but it was pretty interesting to see.

There's plenty of great nuggets on there (including Dave Grohl singing on one song... GREAT song!).

P.S. - I've mentioned it numerous times before, but I got into Nirvana just weeks before Kurt's suicide. It was really a heartbreaking thing for an 11 year old to take, especially after just "discovering" them. :(

...I haven't watched the DVD yet. For now, these CDs are spinning at my work desk.

I think that, having been in a band that made demos of varying quality, etc., I really appreciate the woodshedding aspect of this set a lot. It makes sense to me. (y)

I didn't get into Nirvana until I read Kurt's biography. It really makes some sense out of a lot of the music.

The Man Who Sold The World
Jesus Doesn't Want Me For A Sunbeam
Mollys Lips

All great songs Nirvana covered that showed Kurt's ability to contort a song into his own.

The sound they made on Nevermind is just awe-inspiring.

The box shows that Kurt could play guitar.
