SCREENING OF "AWESOME; I FUCKIN’ SHOT THAT!" ONE NIGHT ONLY
Hello Fellow Humans,
I am writing to you with fantastic news!
There is going to be a special SNEAK PREVIEW screening night of "Awesome; I Fuckin' Shot That!" on March 23rd at a whole plethora of theaters. You can check out this site to see if it will be at a theater in your area:
http://bigscreenconcerts.com/subpage/index.asp?EventID=573
The catch is that it’s for ONE-NIGHT-ONLY. But the special March 23rd screenings will premiere:
"A Day In The Life Of Nathanial Hörnblowér"
a half an hour of additional one-night-only exclusive content that won’t be in the regular release of the film… This is your chance to peek into the dark strange world of one of the most elusive and controversial men of our time!
The actual release of the film will be on March 31st. But when it is released, it will be at fewer cities than are being hit with this one-night-only extravaganza on the 23rd.
So if you want to see this exceptional film in the theaters (which personally I would recommend, as the surround sound mix is completely bonkers, not to mention that it looks pulchritudinous on the big screen…) then make sure that the actual release is coming out in your city. And/or if you want to see the bonus Hörnblowér footage, the one night March 23rd melee will be in over 150 theaters around the country. Hope that all made sense. If not stop by the BeastieBoys.com Message Boards and join in on the chit-chat.
or check out the new site for the film at: http://www.awesomeishotthat.com/
Watch the Awesome; I Fuckin' Shot That! trailer
Alright, just wanted to tell you all, so that later you can’t say "but why didn’t they tell us!!!???!!??!?!"

How serious are they about the "Day in the Life" movie not being seen again? Is it for sure not going to be on the dvd? If so, it sucks. Don't the fans outside the U.S. and Canada deserve to see it?
I hope an unethical Oscilloscope employee makes a secret copy of it or a thoughtful fan bootlegs it on March 23.

Oh, they HAVE to put it on the DVD. They're so good with the extras. They must mean that it won't be in the regular theatrical release on 3/31 in NYC and LA.

A Beastie short from 'Hörnblowér'
By Chris Lee, Special to The Times
AS far as self-referential, meta-narrative movie comedies go, "Being John Malkovich" has nothing on director Nathanial Hörnblowér's short, "A Day in the Life of Nathanial Hörnblowér." For starters, the eccentric Swiss auteur is actually an alias of Beastie Boy Adam Yauch.
Over the years, the rapper has made a po-faced running joke out of appearing as Hörnblowér in the group's videos (he's directed 18 of them), on TV (he stormed the stage at 1994's MTV Video Music Awards after the Beastie Boys' "Sabotage" lost for best video) and in print — Hörnblowér lambasted the New York Times in January after a reviewer dissed his video for "Ch-Check It Out."
"The first time [the pseudonym] appeared was on the 'Paul's Boutique' record cover," the soft-spoken Yauch said between sips of seltzer at the Sunset Marquis Hotel this week. "At the time, I had never seen a video directed by people in the band. It seemed incestuous, just wrong. So I threw Hörnblowér in there."
For "A Day in the Life," however, "Arrested Development's" David Cross plays the excitable fauxteur as a bearded weirdo partial to lederhosen, yodeling and cross-country skiing through Manhattan (nevermind that there's no snow on the ground). He loses a chess match to a dog, harangues passersby in a quasi-Germanic accent that would make Col. Klink wince and wanders the streets of Soho guzzling from a wineskin.
"He's such an amazing character, especially the way that David plays him," says Yauch, better known by his nom de rap, MCA. "I was thinking it would be really funny to do a whole movie based on that."
The 30-minute immutably Beastie short premieres in theaters across the country on Thursday in a one-night-only event coordinated by THINKFilm and National CineMedia (details are at www.awesomeishotthat.com/march23/). But most viewers won't see "A Day in the Life" until it arrives with the DVD for "Awesome; I … Shot That," the group's DIY rockumentary that hits theaters March 31.
In "Awesome," 50 amateur cinematographers wielding Hi-8 video cameras recorded the action on-stage and behind the scenes at the group's 2004 Madison Square Garden appearance, making for a kaleidoscopic fan's-eye view of their boisterous stage act.
Hörnblowér, of course, is listed as director and producer.
But Yauch's fictional alter ego won't factor into his planned feature debut, a coming-of-age drama he is working on about the style wars and territorial disputes of a group of New York graffiti writers in the early 1980s.
"I adopted Nathanial Hörnblowér to do Beastie Boys stuff," says Yauch. "I feel like if I'm doing something outside the scope of that, it makes sense to put my name on it. It's a role that I enjoy."

- Adrock :pI laughed when Yauch started laughing over Hornblower.
Also, the conversation Hornblower had with the dog and as the leprechaun: (y)
The skis, the comment about how as a Swiss citizen, he has the right to inspect chocolate wherever...that's just great.
When he was drunk-walking, I was thinking, I totally would stop and talk with him even if I didn't know that he was Hornblower. I would want to get to know that guy if maybe just for a couple of minutes. But most people walking by him--man, they didn't even double-take and that to me was an added funny bit because it seemed so NYC. :D

Rufus is dead. It doesn't look like Rufus.
I'm not a freak. I know this because of the commentary on the Criterion DVD. Maybe I've listened to it a dozen times since it came out. You can't help but absorb a fact or two, okay?

My favorite scene was when he played Chess with the dog. I actually really liked the film, it's just the unsteadiness made me a bit sick. It was still pretty funny and interesting, I liked it.

Alright, I came in the theater a little late because my dad was gone and we were in the mall and he had the tickets, but when I was going in the movie all I heard was yodeling and I's like "WHAT!?" I don't think I missed much though. Anyway, I really thought it was hilarious, but it's really easy to make me laugh. I don't know why, but I just busted out laughing when David Cross erm...Nathaniel Hornblower was waiting for something and was like "I will squat" and then he squated and did some weird dance move thing. I was all like "PFFFFWAHAHA!!" and my friend's like "haha Michelle! :p " I was still giggling even 3 minutes later, people probably thought I was crazy. And I loved the little conversation the 2 Adams and Nathaniel had, that was really funny. Adam's just like whatever, and Yauch's trying to keep from laughing. Nathaniel Hornblower is so cute, with his stupidity and stuff, yet he's a fucking GENIUS! I also liked the chess playing with that dog, the chocolate testing, drunken Nathaniel harrassing the people of NYC, all the things mentioned already. It was a light humor, but I was smiling the whole time. I donno, my friend probably thought it was weird but she don't know what it was about. :D

i thought nathanial was hilarious! :D
(bonus: got to see yauch with the beard again)
although i was itchin' to see the concert, the "pre-movie" was a good laugh. when the credits started, i told my friend "hmm movie's over. let's go." so she looks at me kinda funny and i'm just sitting there, smiling :)

Okay, I am going to embarrass myself further.
Rufus is in the Sure Shots video. Rufus is a different breed of dog. Rufus is dead. I listed the wrong DVD. It's in Mike's commentary in Spike Jones DVD. He says "Rufus, R.I.P."
The dog in the movie could also be a Rufus, I suppose. I had four consecutive hamsters named April.

No reason to be "deeply embarrassed" by it. The Beasties have talked about their pets, rhymed about them, used them in videos, which in turn they've talked about them again.
It's not like you're sneaking into their backyard to find out what kinds of pets they have because they never talk about pets...but you know they have them and you're damn well going to find out. :p

I thought the featurette blew dick. It hurts me greatly to say that considering that the four involved are my idols. It could've been a lot funnier, but it did have funny bits, so maybe it didn't completely blow dick, I'd say it was the equivalent of a sloppy junior high handjob. Yeah.
Anyway, I also thought I saw enree at the theater, but I wasn't sure. Even if I was, I doubt I'd walk up and be all "Hey, I'm Randy, er DIGI, I mean bobbydigital. herherherher. Anyway, if it was her, she had her shit together.(y)

i hate to say it but i was kinda dissapointed in the thing. it started out pretty funny with the yodeling and the ski'ing across the street (the first time) but after that it was a little too dry, even for me, and dry comedy is my thing! i think it was a little slow too, all the scenes kinda stretched out for to long. i donno, maybe if i saw it again something would click.
