Man faces jail time for selling crack

A City of Poughkeepsie man faces a stint in jail for dealing crack in the city last year.

Landocalrissan Butler, 25, of Winnikee Avenue, entered a guilty plea Tuesday in Dutchess County Court to attempted criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony. Butler told Judge Thomas J. Dolan he had five small bags of crack in his pocket Dec. 22 when police arrested him on Morgan Avenue. He said he intended to sell the drugs.

In exchange for his plea, Butler was promised a sentence of six months in jail and five years on probation. He will also be required to forfeit a cell phone and $432 police said he obtained through illegal drug sales.

Butler remains jailed pending his sentencing, scheduled for April 4.

If this was his first drug offense then they slammed him. Here in Chicago a first time offense like that would result in you sitting in the station lock up overnight and being taken to Cook County Jail in the morning. Sometime later that day you would see the TV judge (closed circuit system used for hearing cases-easier that parading two hundred defendants through the building, in and out of the courtroom.) for a preliminary hearing. On a first time drug offense, with the amount that he had, he would have gotten an I-bond (released on personal recognizance) and been given a date to show up in court at which time the case would probably either be thrown out due to some fuck-up by the cops or the case would be dismissed upon the defendants completion of required narcotics classes (commonly called 'drug school').

He got screwed pretty good.

One of my friends was in the park with his young boy who began playing with another kid. My friend and the other kids mom started talking and introducing each other, etc.

She said her boy's name was Fragile. Fragile.

Man.... why would somebody do that?

You sure you didn't mishear her? Maybe the kid's name is really Fraggle. Did he have big eyes, a pointy nose and yarny-lookin' hair?

It's a story my friend repeated. He said he did repeat the name to make sure he got it right. He said he nearly snorted in disgust. :D
