Does it really get any better than "It Takes 2" by Rob Base?
There was nothing better than late 80's-Early 90's Hip Hop.
I miss that shit so much.

That song is fuckin enormous - the intro then that beat and some of the greatest lines - although its dated a little in the rhyme dept but still - not many better lines in hip hop that first verse:
"I'm not internationally known but i'm known to rock the microphone
cos i get stoopid
I mean outrageous
Stay away from me if your contagious..and so on"
Always liked that track and seeing it in one of the first My Name is Earl was hilarious.

Yeah mute, wtf. Cotdamn.
I can think of a at least rap 300 singles from between '86 and '92 that kill this song, but I do agree that nothing touches that era. Period.
Right off the bat, you HAVE to include classics like My Melody, It's Yours, Top Billin', Night Of The Living Baseheads, You Gots To Chill, The Bridge Is Over, Rock The Bells, Punks Jump Up..., Mona Lisa, The Symphony, Raw, half of the NWA catalogue and pretty much anything that Marley Marl laced.
Then you still have obscure joints by Freshco and Miz, Stezo, JVC Force Krown Rulers, The Alliance, Just Ice and Schoolly D to consider.
I don't think that It Takes Two makes the cut until about...hmm...# 450 or so.

personally, I think it's all about "Ditty" by Paperboy. (y)
It's so true. Anytime I watch the shows that flashback to that time or discuss the good ol' days and interview the people from back then or when you catch an old school hip hop day on the radio, I miss it so much. It's also interesting to see the quality of people who were successful. Back then, no one seemed truly ghetto or gangsta (even if they were raised in lower economic areas)... they sounded educated and many were college kids... nowadays it's all about the thugs it seems and everyone rips off someone else's beats...

I didn't say it was the best RAP song out there. I was strictly speaking an danceablity. Hence the Hip Hop/Dance reference.
What would you rather dance to? This or Straight Outta Compton?
We're talking strictly on dance terms.

"Joy and Pain" is a better dance song, by them!
"Groove is in the Heart" is a better dance song.

Joy and pain (I have the Rob Base album on vinyl somewhere) was v.good but it is the sheer infectioness of the beat of ITT that does it.
I think we need to create a list here of the best hiphop-dance stuff from the 80/90s so we can create an mp3 compilation?
I will start it...
1) It Takes Two - Rob Base & DJ Easy Rock
2) ?
3) ?
Etc...please feel free to add your own!

Remember Amber's "This is your night" and La Bouche "Sweet Dreams" and Real McCoy "Run Away"? Around '97 was the best dance music mixed with a touch of R & B. It used to dominate the airwaves where I lived. Even though I was a little girl, it was amazing.(y)
God, that techno hip hop crap was... crap.

Disagree on the Joy and Pain.
And "Groove" is a great dance song, but I wouldn't classify it as hip hop. Maybe the verson that has the Q-Tip rap in the middle of it.

God, that techno hip hop crap was... crap.Except Snap - The Power.
Disagree on the Joy and Pain.
And "Groove" is a great dance song, but I wouldn't classify it as hip hop. Maybe the verson that has the Q-Tip rap in the middle of it.You're wrong about Joy and Pain in so many ways. They're both remakes, and the original Joy and Pain is better than the original It Takes Two, too.
I didn't know there was a Groove song without QTip rapping on it. I've got about 12 versions on vinyl that all have Qtip.
