I've come across some good feedback from the press listening sessions, but no actual reviews. I believe someone said it was the best album of the year, which is more than likely a somewhat biased opinion, I'm guessing. In any case, Musicology was a real surprise. Hopefully he didn't get sloppy and was able to keep the momentum going.

I'm still making my way through his pre-"Symbol" days (now have most of the essential Prince listening). Should I check it out or still wade around in his old stuff before taking the plunge into new Prince?

My post-symbol record is REALLY spotty, but I'd say there's some post-symbol stuff that you could check out while you're wading around. The love symbol album is tops. Musicology is pretty strong. Stay way the hell away from The Rainbow Children, which sounds like really lame lite jazz noodling (probably great for some motivational video, though). Pretty much everybody agrees that Come is a disaster. Rave Un2 the Joy is supposedly awful, too, but I haven't heard that one. The Gold Experience is really good. A lot of folks like Diamonds and Pearls, but I'm not that crazy about it, and I see it a LOT in the $3 bins.

I'd say grab the bold titles above first and see what you think. You'll get a little overview of his middle and later stuff and see if it suits you. He seems to have gotten a lot less interested in having rock in the mix, for better or worse.

i flicked through rave un2 on my post 3121 high the other day and really didn't find anything that made me want to stop flicking

i thought the everyday is a winding road cover would've been more interesting but sadly not. I need to give the gold experience another listen, i really liked the single, gold, and dolphin is decent. I was never that big on the most beautiful girl in the world at the time. It was nice to see him finally get a UK number 1, but for me there was a lot more deserving singles
