Israeli soldiers using tanks and missiles stormed a Palestinian prison in Eriha (Jericho), West Bank, to kidnap Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) leader Ahmad Sadat, whom the Palestinian administration was thinking of setting free, and five of his accomplices. The dramatic raid ended at dusk 10 hours later as the PLO vowed it will make Israel pay for its crimes.
The roundup started in the early morning when bulldozers smashed down the prison's outer walls, enabling Israeli tanks to enter and bombard the prison.
Following the initial breach, violent gunfire was heard from inside as Israeli helicopters launched missiles on the jail. As the exchange of fire escalated, the Palestinian administration called on the world to "Stop Israel".
Khaled Mashaal asked Palestinians to gather around the prison in support. The Israeli army's statement that "Prisoners will be killed unless they surrender" made the atmosphere tenser. Palestinians poured into the streets in condemnation of the fact that American and British observers withdrew from the prison just before the siege, reneging their responsibilities. Gunmen raged in Gaza as a result, shooting at British, American and EU buildings and kidnapping eight foreigners.
The Israeli army in a statement yesterday evening (Tuesday) said Sadat and his collaborators had surrendered and the raid was over. Israeli prime ministry spokesperson Raanan Gissin said these people will be tried for the murder of Israeli Tourism Minister Rehavam Zeevi. "The militants will face Israeli courts and pay for the crimes they committed," Gissin said.
A person called Abu Jibrah from the organization's military wing Abu Ali Mustafa Brigade told Al-Arabiyya on the phone that Israel will pay for this dearly and they will respond in a violent way regardless if Sadat is harmed or not.
Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas condemned the Israeli siege and immediately stopped his European visit to return home. Mashaal warned Israel not to harm PLO leader Ahmad Sadat in prison in Jericho and Israeli Arab Deputy Ahmad Tibi assessed the operation as an "election tactic".
Fuck, why doesn't Israel just fucking nuke Palestine or gas them or something. It would be a lot quicker than what they are doing now and have the same result.
Actually, let's all save ourselves a lot of trouble and nuke the entire region, wipe them all out. I'm sick to death of this shit. Just when you think there's going to be peace there at last, the stupid fuckers go and do something stupid, like release murderers, which results in another stupid act... ad infinitum. Israel are perfectly within their rights to go and get Sadat, but the consequences are predictible, aren't they?
