Only people without strong accents get to read the news.
My kind of people will forever be consigned to hosting late-night quiz shows/big brother.

yeah! the news is more soothing with british accents... like they could be talking about bird flu and it could sound like a mother goose nursery rhyme:
in british accent:
thair wos a leetle burdy,
who deed not feel so good,
ond peepole tried to touch 'em
wheech they ought not should...
so mo peepole gought seek,
as tha burdy flew oughway,
ond so a pondemic spred
weech es tha price to pay(lb)

sounds more Scottish to me, kiddo.
our ex-roommate is british. and after he whole mess of bullshit that we went through with him, i now have an unnatural, unhealthy fear and hatred for english accents.
okay, okay, just the ones that sounds like his. don't worry, aids, welsh is still fine with me.

But South Africans don't even pronounce words the same way as us. They sound more Dutch than English.

I should have added a  to the end of that post. But sadly, I'm sure a large percentage of Americans would think a South African accent is British. They'd probably confuse a Dutch accent for Irish. :(

it's hard writing how an accent would sound... so sorry if everyone has different opinions:( ... that's why the dictionary has symbols relating to pronounciation, with backward e's or accent marks...
i'm better at writing in american southern draws, y'all

Not all of these Lancashirisms (up the red rose) are still in use but I still like saying "bobbins" every so often when I have a crappy made-in-Manchester meat n tater pasty.
