it's good but not as a good as The Richest Man in Babylon and The Mirror Conspiracy

it has some cool collaborations, maybe it's a sleeper with me....I forget where I put it?

I also like Babylon more than Cosmic, and while I like Thievery's political stance, I kind of hope their next album is non-political because Mirror Conspiracy and Sounds From The Thievery Hi-Fi are great CDs that help straighten out my head (hearing about neo-cons and other scum kind of harshes my chill-out buzz :( ).

FYI: on May 16 (my birthday!) Thievery Corporation is scheduled to come out with another remix album. The following is from their newsletter:

Thievery Corporation - Versions CD
May 16th, 2006

The ultimate collection of Thievery Corporation remixes features 18 dubbed-out versions of songs from The Doors, Sarah McLachlan, Astrud Gilberto, Nouvelle Vague, Wax Poetic feat. Norah Jones, Anoushka Shankar, Transglobal Underground and many more. Also includes a new original Thievery Corporation track featuring reggae legend Sister Nancy. Another stellar addition to the ever expanding Thievery Corporation catalogue.

Here's TC's extensive discography page (http://www.eslmusic.com/discography/thievery-discography.html). Eighteenth Street Lounge Music is TC's own independent label and they have lots of other quality artists on their roster.

This small label also has their own download service for most of their music:

Cosmic Game

in order of my favorite...
Richest Man in Babylon (there is a Richest Man Remix 12" thats really good too)
Cosmic Game (Hearts a lonely Hunter is one of the best)
Mirror Conspiracy (Lebanese Blonded is sick, so is the French version)

Cheers to Thievery they are definetly solid. (y)

Has anyone seen them in concert? They are going to be at Lollapalooza this year and I'm wondering what that will be like. I have Babylon Rewound and The Mirror Conspiracy and I like both.

I stumbled across Lebanese Blonde the other day while on iTunes and I really liked it. I listened to a couple more songs and I'm gonna have to get into this band.

Lebanese Blonde kept popping up on mix CDs I was making for a while... I had to stop putting it on them because I lost track of who all I had given CDs to with that on there.

A bit more than a footnote: Bebel Gilberto's first album, Tanto Tempo, has a track or two by TC, and it's a good album, regardless. Definitely worth snagging, especially since it's about a $3.99 bargain bin CD these days. (y)

Mirror Conspiracy, though that's kind of not fair to say -- I haven't heard Cosmic Game yet, or some of their compilation stuff.

-- which I'm not sure if that counts, anyway.

Man, I can't seem to find this album at any of my usual record stores. I'm going to have to buy it online.

Can someone explain to me how their ouevre works? It looks to me like they have a crapload of albums but some of them seem like jam/instrumental works.

By the way, I came across a song called "The Passing Stars" on iTunes and it doesn't seem to appear on any album. On iTunes the album is listed as The Passing Stars and that song is the only song on it. Anyway, I really love this song, can anyone tell me where it came from and why it appears to be all by itself?

"The Passing Stars" is an iTunes exclusive from last year, for Chernobyl charities. It is from "The Cosmic Game" sessions. You can hear it on their myspace:

It's nearly impossible to describe their music/ouevre - but I wouldn't call it jamming. Instrumental - yes, but not always. I did get to see them last year, and they are totally different live, with guest musicians and multiple singers. If you ever have the chance to see them live, do it.

Their label is called Eighteenth Street Lounge Music and they operate an actual club in Washington D.C. by the same name. Call'em up and see when they or one of their labels' acts are performing there.
