arse!
last night, i read in cold blood til about 2am and have been trying to get to sleep ever since i put the book down .
when i was younger, before i went on the pill, i used to have massive period pains that would normally be accompanied with restless legs during the night - i find the legs more annoying than the wombal cramps, to be honest. well, it returned last night. UGH! does anyone else get this? i'm wondering if la peach is suffering, being preggers n' all.. poor thing.

restless legs, is, for those who don't know [apparently];
[i]"Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a neurological disorder characterized by unpleasant sensations in the legs and an uncontrollable urge to move when at rest in an effort to relieve these feelings. RLS sensations are often described by people as burning, creeping, tugging, or like insects crawling inside the legs. Often called paresthesias (abnormal sensations) or dysesthesias (unpleasant abnormal sensations), the sensations range in severity from uncomfortable to irritating to painful."
i think the ^ above sounds quite dramatic [like insects crawling inside??! WTF?!] but that's the jist. you just have to move all the time. tense your muscles. tap out furious tunes. it's horrible. my body aches! it's so curious.

as i said, i haven't experienced this in years so it's not really a continuing problem, but i wonder about the people who suffer it day in day out?
i saw a documentary once about sleep disorders and a british man in it had restless legs but it was more focused towards sensation in his feet; he had to try to get to sleep with his feet on the carpet just rubbing up and down. most of the time he had to give up and stand in a wet area of the garden on some grass, or scrape the soles along some gravel. oh lordy! poor honey. and poor wife!

so yeah. i'm tired!

it happens to me quite frequentlyk it sucks when you're trying to cuddle but you're forced to get up because of the nearly uncontrolable jerking of your legs. i think mine gets really bad when im really super sleepy.

do you know of anything you can do for it? aside from shaking your legs violently till they're exhausted

i don't know if there's anything you can do for it - there's no quick fix i'm aware of but i'm sure there's stuff out there if you look for it. i haven't really researched it. when it gets really bad and i give up i normally go and have a super hot bath and that satisfies it most of the time.

apparently it might be linked to anaemia/low iron levels. does this mean i'm allowed to have steak tonight? awesome!!

No way! I never new that this actually had a name or that people commonly have it. A lot of nights after I've been in bed a few minutes my legs start to feel tense and kind of jerky. I have to bend and straighten them and keep tensing the muscles. I can never recall it stopping so I guess I eventually fall asleep, but at the time its so frustrating.
Greetings fellow leg twitchers:)

yeah, I've got it pretty bad too. As a matter of fact, just recently, I was driving with my Mom in the passenger side and I had a r.l. attack and the whole car was moving from side to side.

I just hate standing still and it takes me a good hour to two hours to fall asleep because of it.

i also get these other weird feelings, im wondering if anyone knows what it is. i get it in my arms and legs, usually its only one arm or leg at the time. it hurts way deep down, like it feels like inside of my bone hurting or something. its not like a cramp or muscle injury. its not painful to the point that i cant carry on as usual, but it definetly hurts. it odesnt make a difference if im being still or moving around.

anybody?

yup get it here too

I try to remedy it by wrapping my down comforter in different positions between my legs

I'm a generally hyper guy and haven't had an outlet to let that energy out as of late, I should really hit the gym, but I'm a slight germaphobe too, so here's to jumping jacks in the apartment!

yikes look at us all!
i try to sort of hug my duvet between my legs too to smother it out. didn't work last night.
i stretch, i tap, i mostly sort of shake different rhythms with each leg continuously - that sounds more weird than it is. like a drummer.
it wasn't going away so i just got up and came online, did some washing, started to prepare dinner. having a bath soon, too. that will help.

insert - you can have RLS in your arms, too, but a "deep" pain? i have no idea. sounds like growing pains to me - how old are you? i know when i was younger it felt like a real chronic internal bone-esque pain - it was only for short periods though, and quite dull.

I should really hit the gym

seriously, I even do it when I'm doing bench presses or butterflies. I seldom do presses anymore because of the lack of a spotter and I just alternate it by doing push ups. The majority of my work out is just running on the tread mill.

In even rarer cases, these sensations may also be present in the trunk or genital area.

Ouch:eek:

my parents used to always tell me that it was growing pains, but im 19 and its been quite a while since ive done any growing. it is dull but when i think about it, it is very uncomfortable. i can mostly ignore it though. it seems to just kind of come and go at random. doesnt happen too often anymore, but when it doesn it makes me wonder what the hell it is.

I'm glad I'm not alone on this one, reading this has kind of made my day (it has been a pretty dull day admittedly)

not 'restless legs' really, but more just like leg cramps, like the odd charley horse now and again. We were talking about it last week in my pre-natal yoga class. Some say a nice warm bath before bed helps, that and/or stretching gently but thoroughly before going to bed. But sometimes they just happen anyway. My yoga instructor said basically, just learn to focus and breathe through the pain - makes excellent practice for labour:o
