i've been meaning to diversify my collection for a while. for some one who likes: Soundgarden, Led Zeppelin, QOTSA, RATM, Kyuss, early Pearl Jam, Nirvana, CCR, Van Halen(non Hagar), Hendrix, GNR and so on, what would you suggest. basically im looking for cockrock i guess. good cockrock. i really know nothing about current music as i have not payed attention in quite a while. so please enlighten me. tell me some tracks i definitely need to check out by bands i would be able to find in a normal mall music store.

Clutch, either Blast Tyrant or Elephant Riders www.pro-rock.com. If you want to get into them, I'd suggest listening to those two first. All of their shit rocks, not sure about "cock rock" because I've never really heard of the term.

Eagles of Deathmetal

Fu Manchu

Primus

I don't like em but I have some friends that do and I attribute it to the fact that I lack enough testosterone to enjoy this band...

i personally cannot stand wolfmother. i don't understand them? or is that why they're popular?

check out Silverchair's first two albums; Frogstomp and Freak Show.. it's like.. Nirvana-esque mixed with some Tool-esque sounds...... esque.

pure grunge albums, them two.

weren't they like kids?

when they first came out they were but they have to be at least in their late 20's by now. I haven't really heard anything as of recent though.

are you talking about Silverchair? they were all under 19 when they dropped their second album - but by listening to it, you really can't tell... they seem way older.

Fu Manchu are pretty badass. check out Nebula and Monster Magnet if you like them. Monster Magnet sometimes lack a bit of subtlety with their drug references, etc but they've got some good riffs. get Turbonegro's early stuff like Ass Cobra and Apocalypse Dudes but ignore everything else.

Nah, wolfmother are alllllright, pretty much cock rock at its most derivative, probably closer to black sabbath than the bands you mentioned though. Get the track "Woman" its probably their best. Or "Joker and the thief".

i think of zeppelin whenever i hear them

Yeah probably now, but back when they only had the EP all I could think of was Black Sabbath. Now they have done remakes of all the songs off the ep for their album, made them all glossy and more mainstream, so it sounds less dark or something.

The biggest difference is white unicorn, which totally changes key. Totally different songs.

Ha! When I first read Turd's first post the one that came to mind were Wolfmother and DFA 1979!

But if you want the rockier BRMC don't get the latest album, it's way too different compared to their first two (BRCM and Take them on, on your own).

Yeah, pure rock fury is ok but it's got one of the most annoying songs, Frankenstein. It's the only Clutch song I truly hate. Blast Tyrant is better.

I'm still trying to get my hands on Slow Hole to China.

Oh but I like the newer one as well; yeah it's different because it's a bit more 'roots' based and blues-ier, but I'm quite alright with that.

But yeah I guess maybe not for turd, if he's just after the harder stuff.

I read about them being compared to Led Zeppelin. I happen to like "Frankenstien" but "Pure Rock Fury" and "Open Up that Border" are that LP's treasures INMHO. I don't know; they are are a band that changes hats in all the right ways. I hated the Elephant Riders when I 1st heard it. But 8XOver Miss October is now Law! Some music here is hard to come across. Thus far those are the only Clutch LP's I can find though I now consider myself a fellow Gearhead

Protest The Hero - Great rock band from Canada

Bear vs. Shark - Great band that bit the dust earlier this year. I still cry every night...

8xover Miss October, for sure is excellent.
My favorite on that c.d. is Muchas Veces
the runner up is The Yeti. The guitaring in that is just amazing.
Damn I need to get that c.d. again, I move so much that I ended up losing it.
Elephant Riders is a kind of grow upon you c.d.

They've got the newer one out now, Robot Hive/Exodus and that as well took some time to grow on me but it didn't take long. They've got a new addition to the band now for keyboards.

Changing is something they do every album and as you've said, it's always for the better, I.E. they are working on acoustic songs on the most recent ones.
