So I'm waiting at the traffic lights of a really busy intersection to do a right turn (that would be a left to the americans) and the guy across the other side breaks down at the lights. He gets out and starts pushing his car out of the way across the intersection. I'm sitting there expecting someone from over that side to get out and give him a hand, but no, he gets half way across the intersection before someone gets out to help. Me, of course. What the fuck is wrong with humanity? Downhill slide I tell ya. (n)

I think turd's saying that he was waiting for someone else to help too, at first. However, perhaps someone from the other side of the street in a more convenient position should have offered help.

I probably wouldn't have helped unless I was right behind him or something. but I'd worry that me getting out of my car would impede traffic even more, so there'd have to be a place to pull over or another person in the car to drive it out of the way.

yeah i sat there a fair distance from him across the other side of a massively busy intersection waiting for someone else to help without having to risk their life... also I had my car in park and the hand brake on straight away ready to help. I don't need to justify it to you anyway :rolleyes:

I usually stop if it's safe, but some of my friends won't. At times, I'll call them on it: "It's broad daylight. It's a busy intersection. No else one is stopping." And while they might slow down and then look in their rear view mirror, they will not stop.

When my kid was in high school, I'd sometimes be walking home from work and he'd be walking home from school in front of me, unaware that I was a block or so behind him. I sometimes used to see him help people cross the street (we live near an old age home and there isn't a traffic light for them to use to cross the street) or I'd see him help a stuck car get out of the snow--stuff like that. Sometimes, the crossing guards would tell me that he did things like that often and that made me feel good--like some good thing that I taught him stuck. Hopefully, it continues to stick. Apathy is a bad thing.
