To thank my neighbour for looking after our cat, I gave her a twelve pack of beef sausages. She looked a little confused, but I could tell she loved it.

What other grocery store-bought meats can I give as tokens of appreciation?

Tomorrow I might take my mum 200g of mince, with a purple ribbon tied around it.

I could offer raw mince at the restaurant:

"After-Dinner mince, anyone?"

it's only a gift if you attempt to hide it.

...one of my brothers gave me deer sausage at Christmas one year. My nephew had shot a buck, so they took it to the butcher to get it all processed.

That shit was GOOD. (y)

...do any of you folks ever make sausage?

I used to make turkey sausage for focaccia fairly often. If you just have the butcher grind the meat for you (free), it's so, so easy. About three minutes' prep, tops.

have you tried deer jerky? Man, deer sausage sounds rather tasty too but I've never tried it.

oooh yeah i loves me sausages.
they have this fantastic restaurant called monster mash here that does british "greats" - one of which is, of course, bangers and MASH. total gourmet mash and sausages and gravy. i normally have a chili and coriander sausage plus whatever special vegetarian sausage they have, mustard mash and red onion gravy. with a glass of stout. OOOH YESSIR!

on the subject of food gifts - i think olive oil is pretty neat. we use so much olive oil that it would be very appreciated. birthday is july 11th, people!

Good stuff.

Supposedly, some butchers will blend the dear meat with other meats, so you gotta ask for what you want.

I haven't had deer jerky. Was it good? Did you get a straightforward jerky, or was it seasoned in some way?

...I gave olive oil this Chistmas to a couple. I just assumed cooking oil is a can't miss thing, but it became somewhat problematic. Oops.

It was made by my buddy who makes his own. The only ingredients he added was just a hint of salt and hickory. He's going to experiment in using jalepenos next time around...Oh man.

my grandpa bucthers his own meats , makes sausage and makes jerky. He shoots an elk every year so i get to look forward elk sausages and jerky annually. When he doesn't have elk he uses deer, or pig or whatever his other hunting friends bring him. my grandpa is amazing. every year he cooks a boneless turkey for thanksgiving. bones the sucker himself he does, cooks it up right tender. I hope he lives to be 102. :D

I have nothing against hunting if you can make the quick kill whenever possible, and the animal gets properly used. I'm not crazy about, say, catch-and-release deer hunting with bow and arrows. That's a no-no.

...I think it's because she's allergic to dairy, so they immediately thought olive oil = pesto or pasta (with cheese) or something. I suggested they just dip bread in it or something. I mean, it's the good shtuff. (y) Aioli or something. Drizzle it on vegetables. There's lots you can do. Salads.

When I was in South Africa, my girlfriend used to take me to a local store that sold nothing but Biltong (dried meat and sausage). They had some fantastic stuff there:cool:

oooh i love it. i have salads with almost every meal so mostly i use it in dressing. and with vegetables. actually, i'm a real oil and vinegar girl, i think they're all fabulous - garlic oil on pizza, balsamic vinegar, chili oil. flavoured balsamic vinegars are the best - mmm i do a delicious goats cheese, raspberry and rocket salad with raspberry balsamic vinegar in the summer. YUMYUM!

p.s. - july 11th! ;)

Chorizo?

oh yeah, scramble some eggs with it, dice up some cilantro with a few chopped green peppers and some chilis. Then take some corn tortillas and make chips and mix it all together. Or just wrap the contents in flour tortillas but I prefer the corn ones. Perfect Mexican style breakfast.

I gave my fiancee a lamb chop, in a little cardboard box. Just now, we've only gotten up in our part of the world. (y)
