Next Up for Religious Right: Banning Sexual Pleasure

A poll conducted last year suggested that a vast majority of Americans, both pro- and anti-choice, support women’s access to contraception. But now, groups emboldened by South Dakota’s recent sweeping abortion ban—and the coming culture war they have been promised by their leaders—are beginning to advocate the banning of all forms of birth control. Framing their objections as bogus medical concerns, a growing number of anti-contraception groups are advocating the continued legislation of American sex lives, hoping to institutionalize the peculiar dogma that equates sexual pleasure with sin.

It amazes me how people can think legislating morality is fine way to run a country.
is it REALLY all about religion? I think there's something more at play here....
a near despotic attempt at ruling the lives of others. pure fascism..
but to turn such a blind eye to obvious sociological pitfalls of banning all birth-control...it's just too much to comprehend.
NO ONE can be that stupid, that blind and self-righteous.... can they?

Anywhere else in the world, and it might be debateable.

You are just realizing this now? Us "liberals" have been warning people about this since Frank Zappa.

The nation is being consumed by the fear and intolerance fabricated by the media, all in the name of an abstract notion of freedom and nationalism that simply does NOT represent reality.

Wakeup America. This is the height of fascism. You're being manipulated and controlled by the media to serve a war machine that feeds corporate interests.

Please don't pin this shit on even a majority of religious people. It's the sort of freakshow that has no real chance of gaining momentum and is used to inflame the "left" about what a bunch of nuts the "right" are.

the same used to be said about Roe vs. Wade being overturned.
now look at where we're headed.

look, i'm not one for hyperbole....and i'm not even saying this would ever happen.
i'm looking more for debate and conversation as to how people can even think this way....
it's enraging...

Then who the hell else are we supposed to blame? Who else but the fanatically religious could possibly conflate sexual pleasure with spiritual damnation? Only religion could allow for such a powerfully skewed, monumentally ignorant point of view. And as Q said - sure, we used to think that religious nutters couldn't possibly overturn the progress made in the field of human rights over the last two centuries, and then they banned abortion. What's next?

What with our trigger-happy neighbours rapidly regressing into the depths of Dark Age Puritanism, I'm not so sure Canada is a safe place anymore. I think I'll move to Europe. Might buy me some time, at least.

religion is just soooo stupid. its a figment of our imagination. we have an endless abundance of things we can think of, gods and all that are just one of them. it doest make it true, i dont understand how people believe that shit. were just another blip in the universe, and someday well all be gone. (it may be sooner than later the way things are currently going...)
