New series of Green Wing starts on Channel 4 at the end of the month. It's going to be the second and last series, which is good....as most people know, most comedies turn to shit in series 3.
I like this news, great show.

I missed the first episode of the first series, and now I've missed it again.
I just hope they release a DVD or something

This is another one of those shows that a lot of people seem to like, but that I just can't get into. I don't hate it or anything, but I just don't see why it's percieved as being so great. What's the appeal, kids?
I think it's really funny. That's my reason for watching it, and that's all I need.

Firstly, it's fresh. Combining a sketch show and a sit-com is quite hard. If you look at the team, their experience is firmly based in the sketch-show mould, with "Doctor Alan Statham" having been in the excellent sketch-shows "Big Train" and "Jam".
It uses the strange camera angles / effects and surreal scenarios of Jam, but brings them down a lot to a palatable level.
Secondly, the characters are familiar, but exagerated to the nth degree, which is necessary for them to function in the strange world created for them. Which means the chemistry and relationships have a degree of pathos to them.
It manages to be "all things" without messing any of them up. It can have a hint of "The Office" in the scenes with the secretaries, mix it up with a few one-off plain and silly gags, and still have the characters be believable and develop as people, with strong dialogue.
Works well.
