I don't post on general beastie (they make me nauseous), so i'll give a quick review here.
Fuckin SLAMMIN!
first was the short mockumentary about "a day in the life" of Nathaniel Hornblower...
David Cross played Nathaniel.
all adlib, no script. pretty funny.
slow, but funny.
Cross is a genius.
the concert film itself was fuckin great. very unique original idea, and it showed. most of the shots were just fantastic...you really felt like you were there for most of it.
lots of cheesy computer effects that they ran on some of the footage, but i didn't mind.
Ben Stiller was there (at the concert)....he was fuckin amazed by them. said it was the best show he's ever been too.
BigBlu- i looked for you next to Mike D during the Intergalactic encore, but didn't see you, sorry.
there was alot of seriously fuckin funny humor injected too.
lots of funny cuts, you gotta see it to understand...
"HEY GUYS, YOU GOTTA MAKE ALOT OF NOISE...THIS IS FOR THE DVD!"
not quite "the Last Waltz", but a very good film.
can't wait for it. i hope it gets some playtime in my joint.

oh and here's me thinking some guy in sureshots was getting all excited cause he photographed some posters :p
i still think the beastie boys aren't that great. i don't think there's even a single track of theirs in my playlist anymore. It's a big playlist too. I did like them for a while

It's sad that this won't do well commercially, yet the endeavour put on hold the prospects of the original concept: the concert DVD.:(

i went to the union sq nyc screening last night in a pretty big room that was pretty full and the boys themselves came out afterwards to a standing ovation.... im glad i was late and had to sit in the 3rd row, pretty cool to have them right in front of you after seeing it. a most awesome event

So now you think you're fuckin' Roger Ebert?
he is more like gene siskel if you ask me
we saw it in sac. drove 2 1/2 hours to get there. well worth it. the best part of hornblower was the leprechaun part. the show was great. i got chills a couple of times since some of it resembled some of the shows from that tour that i had seen (i touched mike d's jeans and yauch's shoe). aside from the group of 3 guys in front of me, i wondered how the hell you fuckers can watch that movie and NOT move to the music?

i said it a few times before... the crowd needs to be told its ok to do their thing and the volume needs to go up. other than that... (y) (y) (y)

this place is usually too cool for beastie boys and shit saying things like "i dont even like them anymore" "havent liked them since '52" "they're not good" but whenever something new happens they're all back, proving they were just trying to be cool by dissin,

i was sooo dancing all through the movie. though there were some chicks in the very back that were REALLY annoying. they were acting like it was the concert. that pissed the crap out of me. but i was chilling, bopping my head along.
oh it was gooooood. and then.. the beastie boys showed up and made it the best ever.
cant stop talking about it. im so excited.

Yessss - needs to be SO much louder. At Sundance it was insane...
There was not many people in our theater, so my friends and I kinda sang to ourselves during Paul Revere. I cheered a few times..

i gotta say, that was a surprise and was really really cool of them to come by. the pr guy said (in beastie general) that they sat quietly at the back of a BATTERY PARK screening last night too...

All you damn kids saying that it needed to be louder need to shut the hell up. Maybe if you didn't ride around with $20,000 worth of stereo equipment in a $2,000 car, and your damn rap music going bumpty-bumpty-bump-bump all day long, you could still hear!
Hahaha, true that. It really did need to be louder though, where I was atleast. I mean, movie theaters I've been in with just regular movies was louder you know? I wish I could've went to that concert somehow. :(

I'd be afraid to see it in a cinema cause I would ruin everybody else's experience by singing, cheering, dancing and clapping :D
Maybe I have to take a seat on the side so I can jump on the aisle to dance.
Stockholm Filmfestival shows movies outdoors in the autumn and one summer they showed music films. Me and my friend couldn't sit still on our picnic blanket during Rattle and Hum nor The Commitments, we got up and danced! :D :p

AIFST is friggin' A-1. Picked it up last weekend and watched it start to finish. The hornblower skit was indeed hilarious. I like the skis-on-pavement method of transporation he used.

that was my problem with DJ Shadow's "In Tune And On Time" but this zips along i think..the editing helps out alot, plus they throw in little funny bits every so often to mix it up. Really good stuff.
The extras on the DVD are funny too, the BBQ Cook-Off etc.

It did just feel like I was reliving the whole last show of theirs I went to, but with shaky and grainy vision and nobody around.
As far as live rap DVDs go, I've watched my Fade To Black and Up In Smoke ones more than once, so I don't know if it makes a difference if I'm not with a crowd or not. Others like The Roots or Kanye ones (and this one) kinda bore me.
Not a fan of the whole Hornblower thing neither.

The one dissappointment that I had with it, and I'm assuming it was because of copyright purposes, but they edited most of the MMM intro and a lot of the background beats that MMM added to certain songs.

i just saw some of "Fade To Black" and must say these two films are comparable... both open up on an aerial shot of manhattan that closes in on the garden...both chronicle the biggest show of two NY hip-hop legends... and both deliver the goods to the crowd and the fans at home...
aces
i picked the DVD up yesterday based on this thread and it's replies...fuckin loved it. i feel like a geek saying it, but for the first time in a long time, i got hyped watching it. i was actually excited. i'm kinda glad i watched it alone, because i would have felt silly being so jittery around other people. something must have been rekindled in me.
the hornblower thing was funny, especially seeing yauch trying (and failing) not to laugh.
watching doug E fresh do his thing was amazing, i've never actually seen someone beatbox that well, only heard it. fuckin great.
the boys are so good to the audience, too. letting them sing almost the entirety of paul revere was charitable of them. running out into the crowd for the encore of intergalactic was great.
i'm surprised at their energy. how old are they now? i dunno how they do it, especially since they're clean and all.
really glad i bought it, i don't know why i waited so long.

the best parts are:
1) when Mike D mirrors the dance of some girl in the crowd, and then gets transported to a tropical setting.
2) when the hippie focuses a rainbow spectrum into a single beam of white light.

I picked it up at Best Buy a few weeks ago and loved it. (y)
I was a little dissapointed that David Cross played Hornblower instead of Yauch, but it was still funny.
And I still long for some BBQ with a side of beans n' rice.

Watched the DVD last week. Felt like I was at MSG during the show. I thought the extra features w/ the band commentary and the hidden detours was neat.

Holy shit! I thought that was him, but I didn't want to risk showing off my retardedness by asking.
I was with Chad when I watched it and I said, "Damn! That's TPK!! I think that's TPK!"
Chad was like, "TP-what?"
Holy shit! I thought that was him, but I didn't want to risk showing off my retardedness by asking.
haha, me too! i saw it and i was like "oh whoa, is that TPK?", and then mike mentioned some other name and i'm like "oh, well, i wouldn't know who that is, i'll just look retarded if i ask".
haha it was him, great
basically, if you saw them on that specific tour - you'll love this dvd. if not, you'll only like it if you're a fan.
i bet that's what michael is feeling at the moment.
