Texas arresting people in bars for being drunk
Undercover agents pursue inebriates in a pre-emptive strategy

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Texas has begun sending undercover agents into bars to arrest drinkers for being drunk, a spokeswoman for the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission said on Wednesday.

The first sting operation was conducted recently in a Dallas suburb where agents infiltrated 36 bars and arrested 30 people for public intoxication, said the commission’s Carolyn Beck.

Being in a bar does not exempt one from the state laws against public drunkenness, Beck said.

The goal, she said, was to detain drunks before they leave a bar and go do something dangerous like drive a car.

“We feel that the only way we’re going to get at the drunk driving problem and the problem of people hurting each other while drunk is by crackdowns like this,” she said.

“There are a lot of dangerous and stupid things people do when they’re intoxicated, other than get behind the wheel of a car,” Beck said. “People walk out into traffic and get run over, people jump off of balconies trying to reach a swimming pool and miss.”

She said the sting operations would continue throughout the state.

whoa...like I said before

Welcome to the American TALIBAN

Could this be considered some sort of entrapment? Alcohol is legal, these people are more than likely of age, the bars have their licences, and there is no fair warning. What if those who are arrested have designated drivers?

Ha, mr.p just got home from the pub and is a wee bit drunk his own self, I just read him that story and he said "Texas? Well, those people are stupid there anyway. And anyway I am in my own house so I am privately drunk, so Texas can FUCK RIGHT OFF."

Dont know about america but, I was informed tonight by my manager (I work in a night club) that, there is a law that says that it is illegal to be drunk in a bar.

Although there is some laws (http://www.hometownmotocross.com/pages/asinine_laws__all_locations.htm)* that are not really enforced anymore.

*I cannot guarantee any of these are real, alot of them do seem far fetched.

Oklahoma will not tolerate anyone taking a bite out of another's hamburger.
This law still exists.
I think this one is incomplete. I believe the full law is something even stupider like "it's illegal to take a bite out of another man's hamburger while walking backwards." I'm not completely sure about it though, but I do know there is a law here that involves walking backwards.

Also, about the thing in Texas, when they claim that they're "saving" people from walking into traffic or trying to dive into a pool and hitting concrete, I know I can't speak for everyone, but I've gotten pretty drunk before and still knew to wait until traffic was clear to cross, and that diving into a pool from a balcony is probably a really bad idea. Sorry about the run-on. :o

I like that one (somebody tell this Sideshow-Bob ;)):
Location Acworth, Georgia: "All citizens must own a rake."

I would like to know, how those undercover-agents know
if someone acts stupid, because he or she is drunk or just
because he or she IS stupid? SUCKERS! I mean, they don't
know how the people behave if they're sober, right?
