lets me work in my office in a tracksuit, with no shoes on, posting on bbmb, pays for home internet, end of year 2k bonus too, end of month bonuses, smoking breaks whenever i feel like it, can go home whenever i feel like it. no wonder i've been here for 10 years ;) hourly rate could be better but all the perks kinda make up for it. i don't really want to be filthy rich so it's all good

I just got a 100 dollar American Express gift card for being runner up in some contest to make an acronym to depict better attention to the customer experience..blah blah blah. I think its funny they needed engineers to enter a contest, doesn't every one in marketing take like 5 semesters of Acronym in college?

Money is pretty decent, office is relaxed, no suits or stuff like that. We have a large break out area with TV, DVD player, sofas, table tennis, pool table, and 2 Playstations upstairs. We have afternoons out each quarter where we do 'team building' stuff which can be gash but can be alright (last time we did quad biking and archery) and then we go out drinking and for food. And the team building stuff also normally involves trips away so when I joined we went to Naples for 4 days which was good... But aside from usual healthcare benefits the best thing about it is that I get 90% discounts on air travel which is fab. My flight to Tokyo in November cost £80 and my flight to New Zealand later this year will be £120. I can't complain too much (y)

50% clothes, shoes, accessories etc in my store. Can't argue with that on a student budget!

Also I get paid £2.10 above national average of people my age.

It pays my bills.

Pay could be better. I pretty much come in whenever I want and leave whenever I want. Take 1 1/2 - 2 hour lunch breaks. Take smoke breaks whenever.

But sometimes I feel like its sucking the life out of me.

We have a coffee machine that offers mochas! For only 40 cents! Our vending machine has Starburst! If we're having a good month, our boss brings in Krispy Kreme! Our company golf tournaments are paid for by the company! I got a mug and a denim shirt with the company logo on them! For free! One of our customers, a Japanese bottled water manufacturer, gave us a truckload of water to show their appreciation to us for our fine work. I took home two big cases of bottled Nihon Shohen water! For free!

It's motivates and challenges me. The pay is decent.

Not enough hours in the day. Occassionally, I'm a highly paid babysitter. It's also causing me too much stress.

Reminds me of the importance of a good life/work/family balance.

I get free "used" bicycle parts from the repairs I do, which sometimes are almost like new. (y) I've built up nearly a dozen "free rides" this year from just miscellaneous spare parts.

challenging my level of the french language, challenging my patience, but
keeping me up to date on my computer skills and learning some new stuff beyond servers, desktops, and backups (although I was perfectly happy working with just those before), pays the rent and a little more
earn 2.5 days of vacation each month.

one of the coolest things they do here, that I think should be picked up by other countries is restaurant tickets. For each day I work, I can buy a 7 euro ticket for 3.5 euro and use it at restaurants and other places (supermarket) that accept it. So, I get to eat rather cheaply, a thirteen euro meal costs me 7 bucks and I can eat pretty good!

Do you really wanna know or are you just bragging about your bonus?
i really want to know and i'm also very excited about my trip. the bonus was, well, a bonus. as far as that's concerned, the only people jealous of me for that are the state attorneys, because they don't get one even though they are paid by the state just like i am. keep in mind that i am horribly underpaid; the people who panhandle at the corner make more money per day than i do.

i thought it was cool of my work to do that, and i wondered what perks others are getting. your response should be pretty good, since you're your own boss now. right?

my apologies to all who are being pissy -- sorry that i got excited about something related to my job, which consumes the bulk of my life. each day i get insulted by clients and other random people for choosing to be a public defender. the threat of losing my ability to be a lawyer and help the less fortunate looms over my head with every client that bitches, because if they don't like that their only option is a minimum mandatory jail sentence, then they may decide to grieve me to the florida bar. i go miles out of my way to help people who would rather spit at me, and who never appreciate anything i've done for them. my work goes unrecognized. i am finally shown some appreciation, and i'm excited. so fuck all you haters.

my apologies to all who are being pissy..
i am very sorry if you thought i was being pissy - i wasn't.
the only reason i said it made me "sad" had nothing to be with being delighted for your success - i'm very happy for that - it's just that in turn it reminded me of my own severe unsuccessful attempts at even starting my career.
because my mind went in a big selfish circle of being happy for you - then sad for me, because i was thinking how i should answer "what's your job doing for you?" when i don't, erm, have one. sorry! i'm really down in the dumps about it atm so it sort of pervades my thinking/posts all the time.
i'm certainly not a hater. i'm a lover. big love! (y) loves ya bef! :)

claire, i did not lump you into the haters at all. i remember being jobless -- i was miserable. but i wasn't supposed to be miserable, because i was a stay at home mom, and everyone would tell me how lucky i was. meanwhile, i had no adult contact whatsoever and it was killing me. i'm not trying to equate that to your situation, only that i can sympathize.

The only place my job ever sends me is to the fucking bar at the end of the day.

It gives me the daily opportunity to argue and bicker incessantly with coked-up pig-headed traders regarding the various reasons I can't find their goddamn trades in the Clearing Corp System.

Me: "Mark, did you do a hundred lot yesterday with JBF from 136 at 117.12?"
Mark: "Why? Whassa matter? What's the fucking problem now?"
Me: "I just got a call from the guy over at 136 and he says their guy is coming into us for a hundred at 12 but I've been through all your trades from yesterday and I don't see anything that you did like that."
Mark: "How do you not see a fucking hundred lot? I never trade that big! If there's a fucking hundred lot there then it should fucking stand out, don'tcha think?"
Me: "Well, if you never trade that big then shouldn't you fucking remember it. It's a goddamn hundred lot, Mark. The most you ever trade are fifty lots. You can't remember doing a goddamn hundred lot?"
Mark: "Hey, it's your fucking job to keep this shit straight not mine."
Me: "And it's also not your fucking job to tell me what mine is!"

and it goes on and on and on.

That's what my job does for me.
