Tis' true. Just read this on KQED's site in SF, 1pm, replay at 7pm here in SF.
Fresh Air
Terry Gross
The Beastie Boys -- "Mike D," "MCA" and "Ad-Rock" are their most common monikers, but their real names are Michael Diamond, Adam Yauch and Adam Horovitz, respectively. Either way, they've been making music since the early 1980s, and their catalog includes party songs like "(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (to Party)" and "Brass Monkey." But in the 1990s, still making hits like "Sabotage" and "Intergalactic," the Beastie Boys became politically active, with Yauch organizing the Tibetan Freedom Concert to raise awareness of human rights issues in Tibet. They have been vocal opponents of the war in Iraq as well. For a new concert film, "Awesome; I F***in' Shot That," the Beastie Boys put cameras in the hands of their fans.

The interview was pretty nice. It didn't seem like Terry Gross did her research though. Some of the questions were like, "well duh?" Like the one about "have the rules of sampling changed since you released Paul's Boutique?" Yo captain obvious, where you been livin?

she got them talking for a good 40+ minutes, pretty good interview (yeah, sampling questions were a waste, should have asked how often advertisers approach them for samples)

I ripped an mp3 of the interview before the link disappeared. People can download the file here (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=57AC6PDJ). It's 44 MB.

I loved that interview! Especially the part at the very end about the weird uncles, that was really funny. All my uncles are weird in a bad way. Actually, my whole family is crazy. I won't even go on about that though. :p Oh hell, where are my manners! Thank you, I've been saying that a lot lately. (y)

I thought it was one of the best interviews the band has done in a long time.
I think Gross' question about sampling was asked more for her audience, not for herself. She knows her shit. It's very evident that she studies her subject, which is why her interviews are interesting.
NPR had an audio link on the site, but it disappeared. I ripped an mp3 of the interview before the link disappeared. People can download the file here (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=57AC6PDJ). It's 44 MB.
Bless you! And BGirl.
I love Fresh Air. Plus now I bet some more of my friends will want to go this weekend. :p

My pleasure y'all.. heard about it from a friend that morning, knew it would be good, had to tell the people!
Thanks for ripping it, M (y) (it's odd they removed the link)
I have to say I didn't make a point to go listen when it aired because I knew it would be online, but hubby called me in about 10 min. into the show and we settled in at the kitchen table to listen. It was fun to hear it on our little kitchen radio. We both really enjoyed the interview.
The weird uncle thing was funny because I had just recently been thinking about that and how hubby and I might be becoming the weird aunt & uncle..
Save me the tuchus!
